Missing: a special number plate worth R6.5m

The first London car number plate, A1, is missing, presumed lost. It's worth the equivalent of about R6.5-million and it's wanted as part of the UK celebrations for the 100th year of British automobile registrations.

The plate first appeared in 1903 on a Napier car owned by the then Earl Russell. Since then it has had a variety of owners keen on "personalised" plates but in the last few years has slipped from view.
