EU welcomes far-right collapse in Austria, eyes wider trend
EU leaders and officials welcomed on Monday the Austrian far-right's election collapse, saying it lifts a cloud over EU expansion and marks a setback for extremists Europe-wide.
Analysts said the Freedom Party's defeat in polls Sunday could signal a reversal of the recent rise of anti-immigrant forces across Europe, triggered by the Austrian party's success three years ago.
