Conservatives Score Big in Austrian General Elections

Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel's ruling People's Party has registered sizable gains in Sunday's parliamentary elections.

Preliminary results show Mr. Schuessel's conservatives captured more than 43 percent of the vote, while Joerg Haider's far-right Freedom Party got just slightly more than 10 percent.
