As our nation debates the merits and legality of squeezing the gonads of Muslim clerics in dark, dank, undisclosed prison cells, and as we ponder the constitutional authority behind the warrantless bugging of telephones and personal computers owned by unindicted, uncharged American citizens, it is easy to mentally sidestep the nagging but inherent questions such abhorrent activities raise. After all, this is the Christmas season. There's shopping to be done. And all of that stuff is unfolding somewhere far, far away, right?
