New Laser Technology Announced
For “Seeing” Through Fire And Smoke Will Save Countless Lives
RL Associates Inc. in conjunction with AMPAC Inc. are developing a man-portable, affordable, eye-safe laser imaging system. The FireLidar system will permit not only the visualization of victims, but aspects of their surroundings (steps, obstructions, missing floors, fallen objects in path, etc.) that are obscured by the glare and thermal bloom of the fire and the scattering of light by the smoke. This Firelidar system can also be used remotely from outside of a building or structure. In addition, the device is meant to be used in conjunction with existing thermal imaging systems to provide firefighters with a much better understanding of the situation at hand.
