Haider may once again lead his party
Extreme right leader Jörg Haider was poised to make a triumphant return to the helm of his Freedom Party when it met yesterday to try to mend a growing rift that toppled Austria's coalition government at the weekend. Haider was forced to step down as party leader in 2000 after an international uproar over his antisemitic and other racist statements.
