Austrian coalition falls apart - fresh elections likely

Austria's centre-far-right coalition government that 20 months ago plunged the EU into crisis has fallen apart, with Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel proposing fresh elections in November or December. This follows the resignations on Sunday of far-right cabinet members, including Vice-Chancellor Sussanne Riess-Passer, after her one-time Freedom Party mentor Joerg Haider led an internal party revolt over taxes.
