Austrian Chancellor Ends Coalition over Haider

Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel severed his coalition with Joerg Haider's far-right Freedom Party Monday, calling elections after Haider ousted the vice chancellor in a bid to retake control of his party. Schuessel said his conservative People's Party could not maintain a stable government after Haider led a weekend revolt within the Freedom Party, forcing the resignation of party chief and Vice Chancellor Susanne Riess-Passer and Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser.
