Our best wishes and deep respect to psychedelic pioneer and maverick chemist Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin who is preparing for his final trip on Earth; he is "surrounded by love and a lot of laughter," his wife and research partner Ann Shulgin posted on Facebook:

Polizeibeamter betrieb illegale Hanf-Plantage
Eine Zivilstreife nahm in Braunschweig einen Polizeibeamten mit 40 Gramm Marihuana fest. Der Beschuldigte ist Mitglied eines Mobilen Einsatz-Kommandos.
.... Die weitere Überprüfung ergab schließlich, dass der Polizeibeamte im Keller seines Wohnhauses in Gifhorn eine Hanf-Plantage in größerem Stile betreibt. Daraus wird Marihuana hergestellt. Mehr als 60 Pflanzen, Rauschgift und die technische Ausstattung dieses Drogen-Kellers wurden sichergestellt.

BP asks Justice Antonin Scalia for right to avoid making payments for 2010 Gulf spill
BP Plc on Wednesday asked Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to allow the company to avoid making payments to businesses demanding compensation for the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill while litigation continues.
The company acted after the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted an injunction earlier in the day that had prevented payments being made. Last week, the court had decided not to revisit a decision rejecting BP’s bid to block payments to businesses that could not trace their economic losses to the disaster.

Lego tower in Hungary breaks world record - video
Hungary has managed to set a new world record by building the highest Lego tower on Sunday afternoon (May 25) in front of Saint Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.
Construction of the 36-metre Lego tower began on Wednesday with several school children taking part helped by official Danish Lego constructors. The aim was to break the current US record of 34.43 meters.

Conchita Wurst's Eurovision 2014 win caused Balkan floods, says Serbian Church leader
The floods which devastated towns and cities in the Balkans, and killed at least 50 people, were a 'punishment' from God after drag artist Conchita Wurst won Eurovision 2014, the Patriarch and other senior figures of the Serbian Orthodox Church have claimed.
Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian church reportedly said that God sent the deluge as a “divine punishment for their [the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, transgender (LGBT) community’s] vices” Pink News reported via the Economist.

Im Streit um NS-Raubkunst im Erbe des verstorbenen Kunstsammlers Cornelius Gurlitt hat sich dessen Betreuer Christoph Edel geäußert - er sieht nur bei wenigen Werken einen "verfolgungsbedingten Entzug".
Düsseldorf/Hamburg - In der Sammlung von Cornelius Gurlitt stehen seinem vormaligen Betreuer, dem Rechtsanwalt Christoph Edel, zufolge nach derzeitigen Erkenntnissen nur wenige Bilder unter Raubkunst-Verdacht. "Nach derzeitigem Stand muss lediglich bei acht Werken ein NS-verfolgungsbedingter Entzug angenommen werden", sagte Edel in der Trauerrede für den verstorbenen Kunstsammler am Montag in Düsseldorf, die jetzt von Gurlitts ehemaligem Sprecher Stephan Holzinger veröffentlicht wurde. "Ob weitere Werke dazukommen, muss die laufende Forschung ergeben", heißt es darin.

Synthetic drugs are taking an ever-greater share of the illicit drugs market, according to a new report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). New psychoactive substances (NPS) are also flooding a market for synthetic drugs long dominated by amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS), such as ecstasy and methamphetamine, which are more widely used than cocaine, opium or heroin.
