Judge mulls contempt charges in Microsoft’s e-mail privacy fight with US - US claims it has rightful access to data stored on servers anywhere in the world.
A federal judge is mulling whether to hold Microsoft in contempt of court for defying orders to give the US government e-mails stored on an overseas server.
The case is the nation's first testing the Obama administration's position that any company with operations in the US must comply with valid warrants for data, even if the content is stored overseas. The US believes the e-mail on a Microsoft server in Dublin, Ireland is associated with narcotics trafficking.

Drug Market ‘Agora’ Replaces the Silk Road as King of the Dark Net
For two and a half years, the Dread Pirate Roberts and his Silk Road black market ruled the Dark Web. But last year’s FBI’s takedown of that narcotics smorgasbord opened the underground trade to competitors. Now those sites have a new leader, one that’s bigger than the Silk Road ever was and continues to grow explosively.
The online bazaar for contraband known as “Agora” now has more product listings than any other online black market, according to a report released last week by the Digital Citizens Alliance, a nonprofit focused on internet safety. The analysis counts 16,137 products for sale on the site, which is protected by the anonymity software Tor and accepts only bitcoin.

Sex geckos die in orbit on Russian space project
Five gecko lizards sent into orbit on a Russian space satellite as part of a sex experiment have all died, the Russian space agency says.
The Foton-M4 satellite returned to Earth on Monday, the Roscosmos agency said in a statement (in Russian).
Experts say the geckos may have frozen to death after the heating system broke down, Russian news agencies report.

Regierung in Wien antwortet zu Störungen der zivilen Flugsicherung durch NATO-Manöver
Im Juli hatten wir über Hintergründe von an zwei Tagen auftretenden Störungen der Flugsicherung im gesamten östlichen Alpenraum berichtet. Radaranlagen der zivilen Flugsicherung waren durch eine “externe Störquelle” beeinträchtigt worden, dadurch fiel die sogenannte “Sekundärradarerfassung” von Passagierflugzeugen aus.
Gemeint sind Daten über das Flugzeug, die Route oder die Flughöhe, die von Transpondern der Flugzeuge ausgesendet und am Boden aufgefangen werden. Dort werden die Informationen benötigt, um den Durchflug durch bestimmte Sektoren zu ordnen. Außer der “Sekundärradarerfassung” gibt es am Boden eine “Primärradarerfassung”.

The web forum 4chan is known mostly as a place to share juvenile and, to put it mildly, politically incorrect images. But it’s also the birthplace of one of the latest attempts to subvert the NSA’s mass surveillance program.
When whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that full extent of the NSA’s activities last year, members of the site’s tech forum started talking about the need for a more secure alternative to Skype. Soon, they’d opened a chat room to discuss the project and created an account on the code hosting and collaboration site GitHub and began uploading code.
