Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol
The Beckley Foundation's Global Cannabis Commission document said the cannabis ban had backfired and called for a "serious rethink" of drugs policy.
The ban has had little or no impact on supply and has turned users into criminals, it said.
"Although cannabis can have a negative impact on health, including mental health, in terms of relative harms, it is considerably less harmful than alcohol or tobacco," the report claimed.

Kevin Mitnick detained, released after Colombia trip
After landing at the Atlanta airport for a security conference, Mitnick was detained for four hours for reasons still not fully explained. To make matters worse, while customs officials in Atlanta were busy inspecting his cell phone, laptop, and luggage, police in Bogota were ripping open a package he had mailed to his U.S. address on suspicion that it contained cocaine.
The simultaneous incidents gave Mitnick deja vu of his days as a fugitive pursued by the FBI for breaking into computer networks, only this time, he hadn't broken any laws.

Google stock plunges more than 93% in "erroneous trading"
Google’s stock was hit by what appears to have been massive "erroneous trading" that caused the stock to drop from a $380 Monday close to as low as $25.80 in late Tuesday trading. The drop happened within the final five minutes of the trading day.

Wild elephants stroll through hotel reception
But in the Mfuwe Lodge in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, the sight of one or even ten elephants strolling around the lobby is a regular occurrence.
Unwittingly built on the elephant's traditional path in 1998, the Mfuwe Lodge stands directly en-route to this elephant herd's favourite food - wild mangoes.

£1m banknote auctioned for £78K
A £1m Treasury note has fetched £78,300, twice the expected price, at an auction in London.
The note, numbered 000008, was issued after World War II in connection with the Marshall Aid Plan.
The Marshall plan was a programme of funding given to Western Europe by the United States to help with recovery after the 1939-45 conflict.

Dutch eyeglass-maker Hans Lippershey first tried to patent the telescope in October 1608, and his invention was soon a big hit in Europe—as a tool for insider trading. Futures contracts were in vogue, and spying a cargo ship first had financial benefits. Oh, and the telescope also redefined our universe: In 1608, Earth was the center of God's perfect Creation. By 1610, Galileo showed that Jupiter had moons, Earth's moon had mountains, and the Catholic church was fallible. Four centuries on, we know we're a mere speck in a universe of wonders.

FBI’s Complete File on Martin Luther King, Jr.
For the first time, Martin Luther King’s entire FBI file is now online - all 16,659 pages, posted by The Memory Hole.

The FBI’s Freedom of Information Act office elected not to post the entire file to its website; instead, they’ve posted only the first 201 pages here.
For a long time, if you wanted to view the whole thing, you had to pay the FBI FOIA office over $1,600 (10 cents/page) to get a paper copy, which isn’t a very convenient format for a huge file, or you had to go to a library that had it on microform, or you could view it in the reading room at FBI HQ in Washington, DC. Now you can get it online in PDF format.

Fujifilm's Real 3-D Camera Is Just the Beginning
Camera makers are jumping into the 3-D photo market more than 20 years after the format was laughed out of town and ended up as Michael Jackson's sidekick in Captain Eo.
Recently, Fujifilm announced a two-lensed camera that takes images and movies in 3-D and captures wide-angle photos of single scenes simultaneously. As a result, we've heard some rumbling in the wires about other camera manufacturers coming out with their own version in the next year or so.
