Cost of crash: $2,800,000,000,000
How much is that?
The Bank of England may have put the paper cost of the global crisis at a staggering $2.8 trillion, but how does one come to grips with such a sum? Think of it like this: it could pay for 46 bail-outs of the kind the Treasury handed to the banks RBS, HBOS group and Lloyds TSB; or pay off the last quarter's public debt 45 times. It is more than three times the sum of UK annual public spending, and also equivalent to the wealth of 100 Oleg Deripaskas - before the credit crunch anyway. It's equal to 138m bottles of 1947 Petrus Pomerol, the bankers' favourite vintage; or, if it's your turn in the coffee round, 773bn lattes - nearly 13,000 each for every UK citizen.

Drug unit 'corrupted' in Mexico
Members of an elite Mexican anti-drug unit passed information to a drug cartel in exchange for thousands of dollars, prosecutors say.
They said police agents and senior officials gave sensitive information to the Beltran Leyva organisation.
Assistant Attorney General Marisela Morales said those involved had received up to $450,000 (£290,000) a month from the cartel.

Dean Kamen: part man, part machine
Some see Dean Kamen as a Willy Wonka character whose most famous invention - the Segway personal transporter - is still the butt of jokes. Others compare him to Henry Ford. His next project, after perfecting an electric car, is to 'to fix the world' - using a 200-year-old engine nobody else thinks can work.

YouTube Enables Deep Linking Within Videos
It’s not a big new feature but it’s certainly one that will come in handy: YouTube will now allow you to send users to a specific point in a video by appending a short tag to the end of a video’s URL. It’s pretty surprising that this functionality wasn’t available earlier, as Google Video introduced the same feature over two years ago. YouTube users have been forced to rely on third party services like Splicd to do the same thing.

Stefan Raab an unlikely TV star - ProSieben host set to become international mogul
He is obnoxious yet witty, irreverent and unconventional -- but he's got talent. Stefan Raab, a most unlikely Teuton TV star, has long been the creative centerpiece of the ProSieben empire.
In pubcaster-dominated Germany, TV exports haven't done particularly well. German humor always seemed to get lost in translation.
But Raab -- a self-deprecating host, producer, comedian, songwriter and singer from Cologne -- is on his way to becoming an international TV mogul with the surprising success of his offbeat gameshow "Schlag den Raab" (Beat Your Host), a format that has been turned into an improbable German export success.
