Scientists Turn Tequila into Diamonds
Whoever thought that science was a dry subject might change their mind after learning about a new discovery in which tequila is turned into diamonds. A team of Mexican scientists found that the heated vapor from 80-proof (40% alcohol) tequila blanco, when deposited on a silicon or stainless steel substrate, can form diamond films.

Er schleuderte seine Schuhe auf Ex-Präsident Bush, in seiner Heimat wird er als Volksheld gefeiert: Der "Schuhwerfer von Bagdad" hat jetzt sogar ein eigenes Denkmal. Ausgerechnet in Saddam Husseins Heimatstadt Tikrit steht die meterhohe Skulptur - in Form eines riesigen Bronzeschuhs.

CIA chief in Algeria accused of drugging and raping Muslim women
Law enforcement sources told ABC News that the 41-year-old officer, named as Muslim convert Andrew Warren, had been sent home in October. He could face charges as early as next month.
Investigators from the Justice Department allegedly found more than a dozen secretly recorded videotapes of the Mr Warren performing sex acts with other women. An official said one woman appeared to be in a "semi-conscious state".

Order to Kill Angers German Politicians
German polticians expressed dismay on Thursday over the fact that NATO high commander Bantz John Craddock wants to permit the targeted killing of drug traffickers even without proof that they are involved in terrorist developments. NATO is trying to downplay the paper, saying it is merely a "guidance," but that's not correct.

Der Schweizer Polizei gelang ein Schlag gegen organisierte Drogendealer, die tonnenweise Haschisch und Marihuana vertrieben haben sollen. Ein Zufallstreffer per Mausklick bescherte den Beamten ungeahnten Erfolg.

Swiss police spy marijuana field with Google Earth
Swiss police said Thursday they stumbled across a large marijuana plantation while using Google Earth, the search engine company's satellite mapping software.
Police said the find was part of a bigger investigation that led to the arrest of 16 people and seizure of 1.2 tons (1.1 metric tons) of marijuana as well as cash and valuables worth 900,000 Swiss francs ($780,000).

Google Maps Car Hits a Deer, Records Entire Ordeal on Google Maps
Here's a sad one: the Google Maps car took out a baby deer, and it recorded the entire process for all Google Maps users to see. For shame, Google Maps car!

From shredding events to academic conferences on topics including national security and data transfers, social networking and information security, Privacy Day offers many opportunities to elevate consciousness of data privacy issues and encourage others to take action to protect their personal information. Nachdem ab 2009 auch Internetprovider zur 6-monatigen Vorratsspeicherung von IP-Adressen verpflichtet sind, ist es technisch möglich, das Surfverhalten und die E-Mail-Kontakte jeden Nutzers 6 Monate lang und ohne Gerichtsbeschluss zu einem bestimmten Anschluss zurückverfolgen. Zwar speichern die Internetanbieter keine Kommunikationsinhalte wie aufgerufene Seiten, jedoch speichern viele Seiten die Aufrufe selbst gemeinsam mit Ihrer IP-Adresse, die gewöhnlich von Ihrem Internetprovider vergeben und auch vorratsgespeichert wird, so dass bei Zusammenführung der Daten eine Zurückverfolgung möglich ist. IP-Adressen spielen für die Anonymität im Internet eine zentrale Rolle, weil sie zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt internetweit eindeutige Anschlusskennungen sind, die zur Kommunikation erforderlich sind. Eine Maßnahme gegen die Aufzeichnung von IP-Adressen können kostenpflichtige Anonymisierungsdienste darstellen, die nicht nur die Kommunikation zwischen Rechner und Anonymisierungsdienst verschlüsseln, sondern den Nutzer nach außen hin unter veränderter IP-Adresse auftreten lassen. In diesem Fall hinterlassen Sie beim Surfen nur die IP-Adresse des Anonymisierungsdiensts, während Ihr Internetanbieter aber nur Ihre originäre IP-Adresse sehen und speichern kann, so dass eine Zuordnung von Surfspuren zu einem bestimmten Anschluss zumindest erheblich erschwert wird.

Internationaler Protest gegen freiwillige Vorratsdatenspeicherung in der EU
Die Verhandlungen über das Telekom-Paket in der EU brummen bereits wieder, am Donnerstag gibt es ein Treffen zwischen Kommission, Rat und Parlament, unter anderem dazu (S. 20, Paragraf 6a). Hier in Deutschland plant ja Wolfgang Schäuble gerade etwas ähnliches. Wir haben uns daher mal wieder international zusammengetan und eine gemeinsame Presseerklärung herausgegeben. Bitte helft dabei, diese Information zu verbreiten, ruft eure EU-Abgeordneten an und schaut euch weitere Möglichkeiten zur Mithilfe im Wiki von La Quadrature du Net an.
