Prosecutor, Hollywood Demand Prison for Pirate Bay Crew

Three entertainment lawyers and a Swedish prosecutor demanded jail time Monday for the four defendants in The Pirate Bay trial, though they couldn't agree on how much. The prosecution is seeking a year in prison for each, while Hollywood is leaning toward the maximum two-year terms.

Defendants Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde and Carl Lundström face prison and fines as high as $180,000, for alleged contributory copyright infringement. In addition, motion picture and record companies are demanding $13 million in damages for 30 movies and music tracks they claim have been shared by internet users with the help of The Pirate Bay.

iPhone running Mac OS System 7

The MacOS iPhone project has successfully crunched the classic edition of Apple's Macintosh operating system, released in 1991, onto the company's popular cellphone. It took many weeks just to get it running, the developers report, but ultimately the whole system, including apps like MacPaint and MacDraw, run well enough to "sit for hours playing this this."

Is Chancellor Angela Merkel A Former Communist Spy?

Whenever a sovereign nation is conquered by another, its inhabitants, whether they be from its elite or dregs, ultimately have a hard time adjusting to foreign occupation because they don't know how long it will last, and what it may be replaced by. The process is made more difficult if it seems that there is no alternative to the conquerers, especially if they appear to represent some wave of the future. But then, there are always surprises in history, and some seemingly sure things turn out to be nothing more than delayed dead ends. Of course, the alternative to such a course is to continue to fight the occupiers tooth and nail as there seems to be no choice about the matter, but the costs of such a course are usually devastating.

State bill would decriminalize possession of less than an ounce of marijuana

John Carusello has sold pipes and related products for 30 years at his Lakewood Road shop, and he would love to see his customers put those products to use without fear of jail.

"We sell everything for tobacco," Carusello said, carefully, from behind a counter stocked with glass pipes in a wide range of colors, shapes and sizes. What goes in those pipes when the customers go home, Carusello said, is not his business. "We don't ask."
