Downbeat Operatics - Interview mit Tosca
Tosca ist das gemeinsame Projekt von Richard Dorfmeister und Rupert Huber. Seit 1994 versüßen die beiden österreichischen Musiker unseren Alltag mit hervorragenden Downbeat- & Ambient-Alben. Im Frühjahr dieses Jahres erscheint auf !K7 Records ihr fünftes, „No Hassle“. Zu diesem Anlass trafen wir Richard und Rupert in Berlin und sprachen mit ihnen über Inspirationsquellen, Wiens Geräuschempfindlichkeit, die interkontinentale Zusammenarbeit, Musik damals und heute und natürlich ihr neues Album. Hendrix's acoustic Electric Ladyland for sale
A quarter-inch tape of Jimi Hendrix acoustic demos is to be auction in April.
The 14 songs - of Jimi and a single acoustic guitar - are demos that Hendrix made in 1968 in advance of recording his third album, Electric Ladyland. A few tracks include an unknown second musician playing harmonica.

Priests jailed for $8.6 million theft
Two Roman Catholic Church priests in the United States, were sentenced to prison for theft. They were convicted of stealing over US$8 million from St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach, Florida.
Retired Monsignor John A. Skehan and Reverend Francis B. Guinan were accused in 2006 of misappropriation of funds from the church collection plates and church bequests.

Pentagon hacker Analyzer suspected of $10m cyberheist
Charges against notorious hacker-turned-suspected-cyber-fraudster Ehud Tenenbaum have expanded to include alleged fraud involving banks and credit card firms in both Canada and the US.
Ehud Tenenbaum (AKA The Analyzer), 29, was arrested in Canada last September on suspicion he conspired with others to hack into the systems of a financial service companies, before transferring funds into pre-paid debit card accounts under the control of a cyberfraud crew. The group subsequently cashed out these accounts, making an estimated $1.5m in the process.

German Authorities Raid Home Looking For Wikileaks Info
In just a short while, Wikileaks has proven to be both an amazing resource to reveal useful information and a massive thorn in the side of those who wish that info wasn't revealed (this includes, by the way, Wikileaks itself, which had to deal with some of its own private info that was leaked as well.

Gerade vermeldet Wikileaks auf Twitter, dass es eine “Gefahr im Verzug”-Hausdurchsuchung beim Domaininhaber von Wikileaks.de gegeben haben soll. Dieser sitzt laut Denic in Dresden. Als Grund wurden nur kurz “Internet-Zensurlisten” angegeben und weitere Informationen angekündigt: “Stay tuned”.

What in the fuck!
Geniale Milieustudien: Die kanadischen Subkultur-Formate "Trailer Park Boys" und "Pure Pwnage" erzählen ihre Geschichten erfolgreich abseits des US-amerikanischen Serien-Mainstreams.
Exzellent geschriebene und fulminant fotografierte Hochglanzserien wie "Lost" und "Desperate Housewives" haben haushohe Standards gesetzt. Zuletzt startete auf NBC das Riesenprojekt "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip", eine Drama-Soap über eine Samstagabendshow à la "Saturday Night Live", die alles mitbringt, was eine gute Serie ausmacht. Trotz der bekannten Namen vom Macher (dem berüchtigten Serienerfinder und Produzenten Aaron Sorkin) bis zum Ensemble (Amanda Peet, Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford) und den perfekt getimeten Drehbüchern wirkt "Studio 60" überraschenderweise völlig überformt und hat bisher für den Sender nicht den erwarteten Erfolg gebracht. Mit dieser Serie über eine Serie scheint ein Genre an seine Grenzen gekommen zu sein. Der Selbstbezug wurde als langweilig, verquast und unlustig kritisiert.

Trailer Park Boys: Big Plans, Little Brains
Okay, I'll admit that I came to the immense pleasures of Canada's greatest export, "Trailer Park Boys" a little late in the party. By the time I downloaded a 17GB torrent file of "the complete Trailer Park Boys" it was indeed just that, complete, with a bow on top. Two feature films and seven TV series, a total of 56 episodes of some of the funniest television I have ever seen.

Border plants to be killed to reveal smugglers
The U.S. Border Patrol plans to poison the plant life along a 1.1-mile stretch of the Rio Grande riverbank as soon as Wednesday to get rid of the hiding places used by smugglers, robbers and illegal immigrants.
If successful, the $2.1 million pilot project could later be duplicated along as many as 130 miles of river in the patrol’s Laredo Sector, as well as other parts of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Legalize drugs to stop violence
Over the past two years, drug violence in Mexico has become a fixture of the daily news. Some of this violence pits drug cartels against one another; some involves confrontations between law enforcement and traffickers.
Recent estimates suggest thousands have lost their lives in this "war on drugs."

Es ist der größte Drogenfund in Hamburg seit 15 Jahren: Zollfahnder haben auf einem Containerschiff im Hafen der Hansestadt 5,5 Tonnen Marihuana und 18 Kilo Haschischöl entdeckt. Auf dem Schwarzmarkt haben die Waren einen Wert von 28 Millionen Euro.
