Documents: FBI Spyware Has Been Snaring Extortionists, Hackers for Years
A sophisticated FBI-produced spyware program has played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in federal investigations into extortion plots, terrorist threats and hacker attacks in cases stretching back at least seven years, newly declassified documents show.
As first reported by Wired.com, the software, called a "computer and internet protocol address verifier," or CIPAV, is designed to infiltrate a target's computer and gather a wide range of information, which it secretly sends to an FBI server in eastern Virginia. The FBI's use of the spyware surfaced in 2007 when the bureau used it to track e-mailed bomb threats against a Washington state high school to a 15-year-old student.

Content Industry Applauds Pirate Bay Guilty Verdicts
Content providers expressed satisfaction Friday with the sentence meted out to the four founders of The Pirate Bay, who were found guilty of criminal copyright infringement by a Stockholm court. They will be jailed for a year and fined $3.6 million.
The court ruled the operations of the notorious BitTorrent tracker were conducted "commercially and in an organized manner."

Pirate Bay defendants found guilty
A Swedish court on Friday found the four defendants in the high-profile Pirate Bay case guilty, sentencing each to a year in jail. The defendants were also ordered to pay a total of $3.6 million in damages to copyright holders, among them a number of American media giants.
The four men--Peter Sunde, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Fredrik Neij, and Carl Lundström--were found guilty of having made 33 copyright-protected files accessible for illegal file sharing via the Piratebay.org Web site.

Gericht verurteilt Pirate-Bay-Betreiber
Den Betreibern von The Pirate Bay drohen nach einem Spruch des Stockholmer Bezirksgerichts Gefängnisstrafen und Zahlung von Schadenersatz in Millionenhöhe. Die Betreiber haben angekündigt, in Berufung gehen zu wollen.
Am Freitag wurden die vier Betreiber des BitTorrent-Trackers The Pirate Bay zu je einem Jahr Gefängnishaft verurteilt. Das Urteil betrifft Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij und Karl Lundstrom.

Bär war im Zentrum von Laibach unterwegs
Ein Braunbär hat am Donnerstag im Zentrum der slowenischen Hauptstadt Ljubljana (Laibach) für Aufsehen gesorgt. Im Stadtpark Tivoli wurde gegen drei Uhr ein Bär gesichtet, der es über den Autobahnring in die Hauptstadt geschafft hatte. Die Polizei riegelte den Park großräumig ab. Am frühen Nachmittag gab es Entwarnung: Der Braunbär hat das Stadtgebiet offenbar von selbst wieder verlassen.

Pirate Bay server becomes museum artefact
A server used by notorious BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay that was seized by police has been added to Sweden’s National Museum of Science and Technology’s collection.
The museum said today it has bought the server from The Pirate Bay for 2,000 kronor ($243). It’s understood the artefact has been added to the Stockholm-based museum’s “Inspiration Imitation” display, which aims to to stimulate interest in finding out more about the area of intellectual propety rights."
