A Review Of The Best Robots of 2009
2009 has been an amazing year in the world of robots and Singularity Hub is here to tell you all about it! Thats right, its time to unveil our second annual roundup of the best robots of the year. In 2009 robots continued their advance towards world domination with several impressive breakouts in areas such as walking, automation, and agility, while still lacking in adaptability and reasoning ability. It will be several years until robots can gain the artificial intelligence that will truly make them remarkable, but in the meantime they are still pretty awesome. If you haven’t seen it yet you won’t want to miss our best robots of 2008 story from last year, but now lets not delay any further and get on with the best robots of 2009.

Kärnter jagt Auto in die Luft - Enteisen per Heizstrahler
Ganz so warm sollte es wohl nicht werden: Ein Rentner hat im österreichischen Kärnten sein Auto mit einem Heizstrahler enteist. Das funktionierte besser und schneller als erwartet - der Tank detonierte, das Fahrzeug brannte komplett aus.

Kein Mensch will Haider-Museum sehen
Von "4.000 bis 5.000 Besuchern" in den ersten vier Wochen der Haider-Ausstellung im Klagenfurter Bergbaumuseum hatte der Klagenfurter Vizebürgermeister und Kulturreferent Albert Gunzer, damals noch BZÖ, jetzt wieder blau, Anfang November auf APA-Anfrage gesprochen. Wie die "Kärntner Tageszeitung" in ihrer Samstag-Ausgabe berichtet, war dies wohl etwas zu hoch gegriffen. Bei einer Anfrage in einer Gemeinderatssitzung am Donnerstag konzedierte Gunzer, dass es bisher exakt 2.252 zahlende Besucher gegeben hat.

Not Just Drones: Militants Can Snoop on Most U.S. Warplanes (Updated)
Tapping into drones’ video feeds was just the start. The U.S. military’s primary system for bringing overhead surveillance down to soldiers and Marines on the ground is also vulnerable to electronic interception, multiple military sources tell Danger Room. That means militants have the ability to see through the eyes of all kinds of combat aircraft — from traditional fighters and bombers to unmanned spy planes. The problem is in the process of being addressed. But for now, an enormous security breach is even larger than previously thought.
