Hillary Clinton declares international information war
The US is losing the global information war, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared while appearing before a congressional committee to ask for extra funds to spread US propaganda through new media.
Clinton said existing private channels are not good enough to handle the job, naming as rivals Al Jazeera, China's CCTV and RT – which she watches, she added.
Clinton was defending her department’s budget in front of the House’s Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
Clinton said the US should step up its propaganda effort and get back “in the game” of doing “what we do best.”
“During the Cold War we did a great job in getting America’s message out. After the Berlin Wall fell we said, ‘Okay, fine, enough of that, we are done,’ and unfortunately we are paying a big price for it,” she said. “Our private media cannot fill that gap.”

Mustafa Zarti, der Vizechef des libyschen Staatsfonds Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), besitze einen österreichischen Pass, berichtete die „Presse“ (Donnerstag-Ausgabe) vorab unter Berufung auf einen ehemaligen Vertrauten Al-Gaddafis.
Nur kleiner Teil gesperrt?
Der Clan habe allein in Österreich rund 30 Milliarden Dollar (21,7 Mrd. Euro) veranlagt, schätzt der von der „Presse“ zitierte Insider. Damit beträf die am Dienstag durch die Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) erfolgte Sperre von möglichen österreichischen Konten Al-Gaddafis, seiner Familienmitglieder und Vertrauten nur einen Bruchteil des tatsächlichen Vermögens des Al-Gaddafi-Clans hierzulande. In Österreich liege der Großteil des Al-Gaddafi-Geldes offenbar in Stiftungen, hieß es.

Gaddafi warns 'thousands' will die
To Libya now and Colonel Moamar Gaddafi ramped up his threats in another speech overnight, this one warning that he would arm the population and that thousands would die if the West intervened to support the uprising against him.
At the same time his military forces launched an attack aimed at retaking some of the opposition-held ground in the east of the country.

Chavez, Gadhafi discuss mediation team for Libya
Venezuela's president has spoken with embattled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi about a proposal to bring an international mediation team to Libya, Venezuela's information minister confirmed Wednesday.
The two leaders conversed Tuesday, Minister Andrez Izarra said in a post on his Twitter account.

Gaddafi forces counter attack east Libyan towns-TV
Arab satellite television said on Wednesday that Gaddafi forces were violently moving into two eastern Libyan towns, that were previously under control of rebels.

The trouble with Fred Halliday was that he drank too much. He repeatedly warned colleagues at the London School of Economics, where he was professor of international relations, that taking money from Libya would come back to haunt them.
Fred spoke ten languages including several from the Middle East. He could see that the university where he had taught for 15 years was dealing with the Devil and risking its precious international reputation. He didn’t even want Saif Gaddafi to be a student there.
They didn’t listen to him. Not just because he drank, of course, but because they were greedy for Libyan money, a donation of a whopping £1.5million that Saif, now 38, made to the LSE a year after they had given him a PhD.
