Putin vows to give Russia a dose of 'nationwide psychotherapy' as he compares himself to Franklin Roosevelt
Vladimir Putin has vowed to give Russians a dose of ‘nationwide psychotherapy’ rather than submit to the demands made by protesters in a spate of street rallies.
Hinting at new media controls, he demanded the government boost its presence on TV and the internet despite already heavily controlling major news outlets.
Facing the greatest political crisis in his 12 years at the top of the Russian government, he attacked officials for ‘ineffectively’ getting his message across and insisted: ‘It is necessary to step up these efforts.’

28C3 Unbequem im Mainstream
Gesellschaft und Institutionen haben den Chaos Computer Club längst anerkannt, gleichwohl wachsen die Gefahren für die Freiheit des Internets. Auf dem Jahreskongress in Berlin gilt es für die Hacker deshalb, den eigenen Standort neu zu definieren - und der Falle zu entgehen, ein reiner Daten-TÜV zu werden.
Es war ein Jahr der Jubiläen für die Institutionen dieser Republik. Die Bundespolizei, der einstige Bundesgrenzschutz, feierte ihren sechzigsten Geburtstag. Ebenfalls sechzig wurde im September das Bundesverfassungsgericht. Und im gleichen Monat jährte sich zum dreißigsten Mal die Gründung des Chaos Computer Clubs (CCC).

In seiner Eröffnungsrede zur diesjährigen Hacker-Konferenz 28C3 in Berlin forderte Autor Evgeny Morozov sein Publikum auf, einmal den Spieß umzudrehen und die Überwachungsindustrie zu überwachen. Sie sollten sich von westlichen Konzernen, die Überwachungstechnologien an Diktaturen liefern, anheuern lassen.

28C3: How governments have tried to block Tor - Jacob Appelbaum Roger Dingledine
Roger Dingledine and Jacob Appelbaum will talk about how exactly these governments are doing the blocking, both in terms of what signatures they filter in Tor (and how we've gotten around the blocking in each case), and what technologies they use to deploy the filters -- including the use of Western technology to operate the surveillance and censorship infrastructure in Tunisia (Smartfilter), Syria (Bluecoat), and other countries. We'll cover what we've learned about the mindset of the censor operators (who in many cases don't want to block Tor because they use it!), and how we can measure and track the wide-scale censorship in these countries. Last, we'll explain Tor's development plans to get ahead of the address harvesting and handshake DPI arms races.

FragDenStaat.de ging als Projekt der Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland mit Unterstützung von u.a. Transparency International, Mehr Demokratie und der Access Info am 1. August 2011 online. Ein halbes Jahr später gibt es viel veröffentlichte Korrespondenz mit Behörden zu begutachten, die einige spannende Geschichten enthalten und interessante Fragen aufwerfen. Hat man Recht auf Akteneinsicht in die Gutachten des Wissenschaftlichen Dienstes des Bundestags? Sind Datenshops mit dem IFG vereinbar? Und wie muss man das Informationsfreiheitsgesetz verbessern, damit es auch in Zeiten von Open Data funktioniert? Im Vortrag möchte ich unter anderem auf diese Fragen eingehen, Statistiken der Plattform präsentieren (welche Behörde antwortet am schnellsten etc.), erklären welche Mittel und Wege es gibt, um Informationen von staatlicher Stelle zu erlangen und dazu aufrufen, diese Mittel auch aktiv zu nutzen.

Politik hacken
Klassischer Protest, konventionelle Demos, Online-Petitionen und Bürgerinitiativen werden seit einiger Zeit durch neue Instrumente der politischen Partizipation ergänzt. Deren Stärke liegt in dezentraler Organisation, Kommunikationsguerilla-Aktionen, diskursiver Intervention und kollaborativer Spontaneität. Der Vortrag stellt anhand von Beispielen ein Toolset an Möglichkeiten des regelverletzenden und gewaltfreien Mitmischens und Einmischens in Politik vor.
Anonymous, die Hedonistische Internationale, Telecomix oder die Space Hijackers sind einige der Netzwerke, die eine neue Art des Protests und der politischen Einmischung erproben. Ihnen ist gleich, dass sie mit ihren Aktionen immer auch in den medialen Diskurs eingreifen wollen – und auf eine Richtig- bzw. Weichenstellung für eine andere Wahrnehmung der Welt setzen. Das gilt sowohl für die Wahrnehmung der Medien als auch für die Wahrnehmung von Politik. Bilder und Images werden uminterpretiert, gesellschaftliche Codes geknackt, offene Flanken genutzt. Dabei setzt diese Form des Protests auf Regelverletzung und eine neue Interpretation der Zeichen.

Der Chaos Computer Club (CCC) diskutiert ab heute auf seinem "Chaos Communication Congress (28C3)" über netzpolitische Themen und nimmt Sicherheitlücken ins Visier. Der größte Hackerverein Europas erwartet bis zu 4000 Teilnehmer im Berliner Congress-Center am Alexanderplatz.

GoDaddy Accused of Stifling Domain Movers
Domain registrar GoDaddy may have dropped its official support for the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), but this ugly chapter is far from over. According to competing registrar Namecheap, GoDaddy is doing all it can to hamper the flow of domains away from its service. Namecheap claims that GoDaddy’s actions violate ICANN rules, but is promising to work with potential customers to get their domains moved.

Android Approved By Pentagon
"The Pentagon has approved a version of Android running on Dell hardware to be used by DoD officials, along with the BlackBerry. The approval of Android by the DoD is a major setback for Apple's iPhone. This doesn't mean that DoD employees can use any Android phone. The Pentagon has approved only Dell's hardware running Android 2.2. Interestingly Dell recently discontinued its Streak phone which runs Android 2.2. Dell is now offering Dell Venue which runs on Android 2.2. So, this is the phone which DoD employees can use."

GoDaddy lost 72,354 domains this week. It's not enough.
Despite a massive Twitter campaign and a blog post that claims “Go Daddy no longer supports SOPA legislation” the company and their CEO have dodged questions about opposing the bill. In essence, they are taking a lesser role by not showing support for the bill. They have not opposed it.
This week, they lost around 72,000 domain registrations. At a yearly discounted rate of $6.99 (most registrations are higher), that’s over half a million dollars per year. It is apparently not enough for them to speak out against the bill.
