Satellite Phone Encryption Cracked
A team of German researchers appears to have cracked the GMR-1 and GMR-2 encryption algorithms used by many (though not all) satellite phones. Anyone fancy putting a cluster together for a listening party? 'Mr. Driessen told The Telegraph that the equipment and software needed to intercept and decrypt satellite phone calls from hundreds of thousands of users would cost as little as $2,000. His demonstration system takes up to half an hour to decipher a call, but a more powerful computer would allow eavesdropping in real time, he said.'

Anonymous demütigt FBI und Scotland Yard
Anonymous-Aktivisten ist es gelungen, eine vertrauliche Telefonkonferenz der Londoner Polizei Scotland Yard und der US-Bundespolizei FBI abzuhören. Die Inhalte der Konferenz, die offenbar am 17. Januar stattfand, wurde von den Aktivisten unter anderem auf YouTube veröffentlicht. Das FBI bestätigte am heutigen Freitag die Echtheit des Konferenz-Mitschnitts.
Bei der 17 Minuten dauernden Telefonschalte wurden neben allerlei Nebensächlichkeiten Details über laufende Ermittlungen gegen Anonymous und LulzSec diskutiert, darunter auch die Termine geplanter Festnahmen. Neben der Konferenz-Audiodatei veröffentlichte Anonymous zudem eine E-Mail, die vom FBI stammen soll und die Zugangsdaten zu der Telefonkonferenz enthält.

Anonymous Eavesdrops on FBI Anti-Anonymous Strategy Meeting
As FBI and Scotland Yard investigators recently plotted out a strategy for tracking suspects linked to Anonymous, little did they know that members of the group were eavesdropping on their conference call and recording their plans.
The online vigilante group has released a 17-minute clip of a Jan. 17 conference call between investigators discussing evidence gathered against members of the group as well as upcoming plans for arrests. The group also released an e-mail sent out by an FBI agent to law enforcement agents around the world with a phone number and password for accessing the conference call.

Presidential elections in Turkmenistan – Looking from a different angle
Ashgabat, 4 February 2012 — The presidential elections in Turkmenistan will take place in less than 10 days from now.
Observers and analysts have raised several objections on the whole process:
All the seven candidates running against President Berdymuhamedov are weak and obscure
There is no opposition candidate
The election manifesto of all candidates looks like a weak carbon copy of Berdymuhamedov’s manifesto
These are sham elections; just a way for the sitting administration to stay in power
Superficially, these look like justifiable objections. Let’s examine them one by one.

Polizei scheitert bei Durchsuchung an Imac.
Im Durchsuchungsbericht heißt es, auf dem Schreibtisch hätten sich ein Monitor und eine Tastatur befunden. Der “dazugehörige PC” sei jedoch nicht auffindbar gewesen. Auf die Mitnahme des Monitors und der Tastatur habe man verzichtet.
Der iMac hat also durchaus Vorzüge.

Domainverwalter VeriSign gehackt
Das Unternehmen ist für .com, .net und .gov-Domains zuständig und betreibt auch einen Großteil des weltweiten DNS-Systems
Das Unternehmen VeriSign, das für die Verwaltung der Domains mit den Endungen .com, .net und .gov zuständig ist, wurde offenbar mehrmals gehackt. Das meldet die Nachrichtenagentur Reuters. VeriSigns Domain Name Server, die für die Übersetzung von Eingaben wie "google.com" in die entsprechende IP-Adresse zuständig sind, verarbeiten jeden Tag mehr als 50 Milliarden Anfragen. "Wir glauben nicht, dass die Angreifer auf unser Domain Name System vordringen konnten.", sagen die Verantwortlichen bei VeriSign. Ausschließen wolle man aber dennoch nichts.

Mit einer Einladung zu renommierten Fachkonferenzen haben Unbekannte versucht, einen Trojaner bei Firmen der Rüstungsindustrie einzuschleusen. Wer den angehängten Flyer im PDF-Format öffnete, handelte sich über eine bis dahin nicht bekannte Lücke im Acrobat-Reader Spionage-Software ein, erklären die Sicherheitsfirmen Seculert und Zscaler.

Monsanto’s Roundup Contaminating Groundwater Supplies
Monsanto, the world leader of genetically engineered (GE) crops, has long claimed that its herbicide Roundup is safe. They have even used the following to describe Roundup:
“Biodegradable”
“Environmentally Friendly”
“It’s Safer than Mowing”
Unfortunately long after hundreds of millions of pounds of the chemical have already been applied to U.S. soil, Roundup is proving to be a pervasive environmental threat, one that may already be poisoning a good portion of the world’s remaining natural water supply.
The quantity of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, in the environment has been difficult to analyze due to its physicochemical properties, such as its relatively low molecular weight and low organic solvent solubility.
However, a recent study used a magnetic particle immunoassay to test for the presence of glyphosate in roughly 140 samples of groundwater from Catalonia, Spain.

The Other F Word is a raucous, eye-opening, sad and unexpectedly wise look at veteran punk rockers as they adapt to the challenges of fatherhood. Linken-Chefs verlieren Immunität
Mit den Stimmen der Koalition hat der Landtag die Immunität der Linken-Fraktionschefs Janine Wissler und Willi van Ooyen aufgehoben. Sie hatten an einer nicht genehmigten Demo gegen Neonazis teilgenommen.
Wissler und van Ooyen hatten im Februar 2010 in Dresden mit rund 10.000 Menschen an einer Blockade eines Neonazi-Aufmarschs teilgenommen. Diese Blockade war nicht genehmigt. Die Dresdner Staatsanwaltschaft wirft den beiden hessischen Linken-Politikern Rädelsführerschaft und Verstoß gegen das Versammlungsgesetz vor.

Google to Censor Blogger Blogs on a ‘Per Country Basis’
Google has quietly announced changes to its Blogger free-blogging platform that will enable the blocking of content only in countries where censorship is required.
Twitter announced technology last week addressing the same topic. It said it had acquired the ability to censor tweets in the countries only where it was ordered removed, instead of on an internet-wide basis.
