Phone and email records to be stored in new spy plan
Details of every phone call and text message, email traffic and websites visited online are to be stored in a series of vast databases under new Government anti-terror plans.
Landline and mobile phone companies and broadband providers will be ordered to store the data for a year and make it available to the security services under the scheme.
The databases would not record the contents of calls, texts or emails but the numbers or email addresses of who they are sent and received by.
For the first time, the security services will have widespread access to information about who has been communicating with each other on social networking sites such as Facebook.

Animal rights group says drone shot down
A remote-controlled aircraft owned by an animal rights group was reportedly shot down near Broxton Bridge Plantation Sunday near Ehrhardt, S.C.
Steve Hindi, president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video what he called a live pigeon shoot on Sunday when law enforcement officers and an attorney claiming to represent the privately-owned plantation near Ehrhardt tried to stop the aircraft from flying.

Dumb Teen, Looking For Marijuana, Steals Tomato Plant
Call it a case of mistaken plant identity.
A 15-year-old boy climbed into Angela Cartwright's kitchen window thinking to make off with a marijuana plant, but instead the young thief was actually stealing a potted tomato plant, a sheriff's arrest report shows.
As he was running from Cartwright's house on Carmen Avenue near Holly Hill on Feb. 10 just after 7 a.m., the teen even yelled at Cartwright, "See, I have one of your pot plants!" the arrest report states.

Armed robbers steal blow-up sex doll
A blow-up doll in one of Russia’s sex shops has fallen prey to a group of armed robbers in what could become the perfect setting for a gangster comedy.
The Pink Rabbit sex shop became the theater of war for three gentlemen who broke into the boutique in the center of St Petersburg at six o’clock in the morning.

Feds seize $50 million in Megaupload assets, lodge new charges
The authorities said Friday they have seized $50 million in Megaupload-related assets and added additional charges in one of the United States' largest criminal copyright infringement prosecutions.
Megaupload, the popular file-sharing site, was shuttered last month and its top officials indicted by the Justice Department, just days after online protests scuttled a Congressional proposal to make changes to the internet to reduce online copyright infringement.

Slowenien stoppt ACTA-Ratifizierung
Nächster Staat, der den Prozess "schnellstmöglich" einfriert
Slowenien setzt die Ratifizierung des Anti-Piraterie-Abkommens ACTA aus. Wirtschaftsminister Radovan Zerjav bestätigte am Freitag, dass die Regierung den Ratifizierungsprozess „schnellstmöglich“ einfrieren werde. Solange das Abkommen nicht ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Urheberrechtsschutz und Menschenrechten herstelle, werde die Regierung ihre Haltung dazu nicht ändern, sagte Zerjav.
Der Wirtschaftsminister äußerte sich bei der öffentlichen Diskussion über das ACTA-Abkommen am Freitag im slowenischen Parlament. Bei der Diskussion zeigte sich einhelliger Widerstand verschiedenster slowenischer Institutionen und der Öffentlichkeit gegen ACTA.

ACTA auf Eis Österreich rudert zurück
Damit haben die Politiker wohl nicht gerechnet. Die massiven internationalen Proteste gegen das Handelsabkommen gegen Produktfälschungen und Internetpiraterie, kurz ACTA, haben nun zu einer politischen Absetzbewegung geführt. Befürchtet werden Kollateralschäden wie Zensur. Österreich rudert nach anfänglicher Zustimmung nun zurück.
Immer mehr Länder und Politiker finden plötzlich, dass man sich das ACTA-Abkommen nochmal anschauen müsse, nachdem vorher schon grünes Licht erteilt worden war. Auch in Österreich. Obwohl ein Regierungsbeschluss pro ACTA von Ende Jänner vorliegt, liegt die Ratifizierung im Parlament vorerst auf Eis. Zumindest bis das Europäische Parlament eine Entscheidung getroffen hat.

Arrests made in Italy after discovery of $6 trillion in fake U.S. bonds
Italian authorities on Friday arrested eight people in possession of an estimated $6 trillion in counterfeit U.S. Treasury bonds, according to Italian paramilitary police and an Italian news agency.
The discovery of the fake bonds -- made to look as if they were printed by the U.S. Federal Reserve in 1934 -- came about as part of an investigation into a local mafia association.
