Matt Ellis doesn’t smoke weed. He simply doesn’t enjoy being stoned. The all-too-familiar itch of paranoia that follows a few deep rips of cannabis is enough to keep him from using. But that’s not to say he doesn’t enjoy—or maybe even need—weed. It’s in the one green that he sees gobs of the other.
“At the end of the day, it’s about making money,” says Ellis, whose Denver-based biomass extraction company is one of countless others riding a wave of high tech innovation in the wake of recent measures in Colorado and Washington state legalizing small amounts of weed for recreational use. “I mean, I want to help people, don’t get me wrong," Ellis tells me, referring to a medicinal pot industry brimming with new and diffuse cannabis-concentrate highs that his company, ExtractionTek Solutions, is poised to capitalize on. “But we gotta make a living.”

Monsanto gibt Kampf für Gentechnik in Europa auf
Der Protest war offenbar zu groß: Der Saatguthersteller Monsanto beendet seinen Kampf für Gentechnik in Europa. Das Unternehmen will weder die Zulassung neuer Pflanzen beantragen, noch für solche Nahrung lobbyieren.
In Europa gab es lange heftigen Protest gegen Monsantos gentechnisch veränderte Produkte - jetzt lenkt der weltgrößte Saatguthersteller offenbar ein: "Wir machen keine Lobbyarbeit mehr für den Anbau in Europa", sagte Monsantos Europa-Pressechef Brandon Mitchener der "taz". "Derzeit planen wir auch nicht, die Zulassung neuer gentechnisch veränderter Pflanzen zu beantragen." Grund sei die geringe Nachfrage der Bauern.

How will Feds deal with marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington?
A potential showdown will probably not target individual users of the drug, instead focusing on new regulations that will make marijuana sales permissible, a violation of federal law.
Now that voters in Colorado and Washington have approved legalized sales of marijuana in those two states, the federal government is expected to aggressively confront the new laws through lawsuits saying they are invalidated under US law.

Rätselhafter Absturz einer Drohne in Somalia
Das Gerät soll der US-Luftwaffe gehört haben. Fotos weisen aber darauf hin, dass es sich um eine Helikopter-Drohne aus Österreich handelt, die nie in die USA verkauft wurde
Eine in Somalia abgestürzte Drohne gibt mittlerweile immer mehr Rätsel auf. Das unbemannte Luftfahrzeug ging an der Küste südlich der Stadt Mogadischu nieder. Wie am Dienstag von einem Sprecher der US-Armee bestätigt, handele es sich um einen Flugroboter der Vereinigten Staaten. Jedoch wollte der Militärangehörige gegenüber den Medien anonym bleiben. Nähere Angaben zur Ursache des Crashs machte er nicht, der Vorfall würde aber untersucht. Somit bleibt auch offen, ob die Drohne bewaffnet war oder welche sonstige Ausrüstung sie getragen hat. Die britische BBC will sogar vom somalischen Provinzgouverneur erfahren haben, dass die Drohne abgeschossen wurde.
