'New-pot in bloom': Cannabis plants found growing in Newport Council flower pots
It was high time gardeners did some weeding when cannabis was found in council flower pots.
About 20 plants could be seen sprouting from among flowers in six separate boxes in Newport city centre – passed by thousands of motorists every day and half a mile from the city’s main police station.

Half of Tor Sites Compromised, Including TORMail
The founder of Freedom Hosting has been arrested in Ireland and is awaiting extradition to USA. In a crackdown the FBI claims to be about hunting down pedophiles, half of the onion sites in the TOR network have been compromised, including the e-mail counterpart of TOR deep web, TORmail. The FBI has also embedded a 0-day Javascript attack against Firefox 17 on Freedom Hosting's server.

500 Millionen Verbindungsdaten im Monat: BND betreibt Vorratsdatenspeicherung durch die Hintertür
Der BND sammelte allein im Dezember 2012 500 Millionen Verbindungsdaten. Diese werden in großem Umfang an die NSA übermittelt. Diese de facto Vorratsdatenspeicherung ist laut BND durch das BND-Gesetz und das G10-Gesetz zur Beschränkung des Brief-, Post- und Fernmeldegeheimnisses gedeckt. Zudem erfasse man gar keine Telekommunikationsverkehre deutscher Staatsangehöriger. Das berichtet der SPIEGEL auf Basis von Dokumenten aus dem Fundus von Edward Snowden.

Chinese Hacking Team Caught Taking Over Decoy Water Plant
A hacking group accused of being operated by the Chinese army now seems to be going after industrial control systems.
A Chinese hacking group accused this February of being tied to the Chinese army was caught last December infiltrating a decoy water control system for a U.S. municipality, a researcher revealed on Wednesday.

Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's longest-serving postwar prime minister, has railed against the country's "uncontrollable and uncontrolled" judiciary and accused them of persecuting him with a "fury that has no equal anywhere in the civilised world" hours after being handed his first definitive criminal conviction in more than two decades of legal battles.
In a defiant video message broadcast on one of his own private television channels, the billionaire centre-right leader denied having committed the tax fraud of which he was convicted and for which he was sentenced to a four-year jail term by Italy's supreme court. "No false invoice exists in the history of [Berlusconi's television empire] Mediaset," he said.

NSA pays £100m in secret funding for GCHQ
The US government has paid at least £100m to the UK spy agency GCHQ over the last three years to secure access to and influence over Britain's intelligence gathering programmes.
The top secret payments are set out in documents which make clear that the Americans expect a return on the investment, and that GCHQ has to work hard to meet their demands. "GCHQ must pull its weight and be seen to pull its weight," a GCHQ strategy briefing said.
