Die Konsumenten in Washington werden ihr Cannabis von bis zu 334 Läden beziehen können. Diese werden auf die Counties und Städte aufgeteilt. In Seattle werden 21 legale Cannabisläden erlaubt sein, eine großer Unterschied von den geforderten 100 Läden plus Abgabestellen für Medizinalhanf, den die Stadtbewohner wollten.

Angry Brazilian whacks NASA to put a stop to ... er, the NSA
Multiple NASA websites were defaced last week by a Brazilian hacktivist who may have misread the sites' URLs, because he wasn't protesting about the US space agency giving joyrides to inhuman stowaways – he was protesting against NSA spying.
“BMPoC” hit kepler.arc.nasa.gov and 13 other sites with messages protesting against US spying on Brazil, as well as a possible US military intervention in Syria.

Legal cannabis market 'would be worth £1.25bn a year to government'
The report, by the Institute for Social and Economic Research, quantifies for the first time the revenue to be gained from the regulation and taxation of the cannabis market in England and Wales.
It estimates that reduced enforcement costs, such as police, court and prison time and community sentences, could save £300m or more alone, with the remaining three-quarters of the net benefit come from tax revenue.

Anonym im Internet surfen, das geht mit dem Dienst Tor. Doch dem drohen nun gleich mehrere Gefahren: Ein Botnetz bringt das Netzwerk an den Rand der Belastungsgrenze, anonyme Nutzer werden enttarnt - und dann ist da noch die NSA.
Wer anonym im Internet surfen möchte, kann seine Spuren mit Hilfe des Tor-Netzwerks verwischen. Anstatt eine Website direkt aufzurufen, schickt der eigene Browser eine verschlüsselte Anfrage über mehrere andere Computer. Nur der letzte in der Kette weiß, welche Seite aufgerufen wird - aber nicht, von wem.

FBI Admits It Controlled Tor Servers Behind Mass Malware Attack
It wasn’t ever seriously in doubt, but the FBI yesterday acknowledged that it secretly took control of Freedom Hosting last July, days before the servers of the largest provider of ultra-anonymous hosting were found to be serving custom malware designed to identify visitors.
Freedom Hosting’s operator, Eric Eoin Marques, had rented the servers from an unnamed commercial hosting provider in France, and paid for them from a bank account in Las Vegas. It’s not clear how the FBI took over the servers in late July, but the bureau was temporarily thwarted when Marques somehow regained access and changed the passwords, briefly locking out the FBI until it gained back control.

Jonathan Trappe is either on the world's best ever flight of fancy or he's reached the heights of lunacy.
The North Carolina IT manager reportedly lifted off from a field in Caribou, Maine, at 6 a.m. Thursday morning — held aloft by 370 party balloon filled with helium — hoping to become the first person to use such a contraption to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

That’s the spirit: Snake preserved in wine for 3 months bites woman
The Year of the Snake has proved unlucky for one woman in northern China who received hospital treatment after opening a bottle of wine containing a snake that suddenly jumped out and bit her hand.
The surprise attack occurred after the woman surnamed Liu from Shuangcheng, Heilongjiang Province decided to add more alcohol to the bottle when the snake, which she had bought live in June and since kept pickled in spirits, pulled a Jesus and sprung to life, dbw.cn reported on September 3.

Tritium levels spike at stricken Fukushima nuclear plant
The operator of the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant said levels of tritium - considered one of the least harmful radioactive elements - spiked more than 15 times in groundwater near a leaked tank at the facility over three days this week.
