Crazy Red Bull Air Races Returning to the Skies in 2014

After a three year absence, the Red Bull Air Races are coming back to the skies in February.

The series started in 2003, and features pilots who fly through a series of lightweight plastic pylons at speeds well over 200 miles per hour, with several aerobatic maneuvers required to complete the course. Many of the courses have the pilots flying just a few feet above the ground, and one even includes flying under a bridge. The series was put on a hold after the 2010 races as the increasing speeds and high-g maneuvers raised safety concerns.

5 Ways Monsanto Wants to Profit Off of Climate Change

Global warming could mean big business for controversial agriculture giant Monsanto, which announced last week it was purchasing the climate change-oriented startup Climate Corporation for $930 million.

Agriculture, which uses roughly 40 percent of the world's land, will be deeply affected by climate change in the coming years. In 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicted that warming will lead to pest outbreaks, that climate-related severe weather will impact food security, and that rising temperatures will hurt production for farms in equatorial areas.

Menthol cigarettes to be banned by EU

Menthol cigarettes are to be banned and health warnings covering 65% of cigarette packs will be introduced under new EU rules.

The European parliament in Strasbourg voted on measures to help curb smoking but stopped short of introducing plain packaging for cigarettes and tobacco.

Legislators put new limits on advertising for electronic cigarettes but have so far rejected proposals for them to be regarded as medicinal products. Menthol and other flavours will be banned but there is to be no ban on packs of slim cigarettes.

Meltdowns Hobble NSA Data Center

Chronic electrical surges at the massive new data-storage facility central to the National Security Agency's spying operation have destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of machinery and delayed the center's opening for a year, according to project documents and current and former officials.

There have been 10 meltdowns in the past 13 months that have prevented the NSA from using computers at its new Utah data-storage center, slated to be the spy agency's largest, according to project documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
