Der österreichische Verfassungsschutz und seine Befugnisse
In Deutschland wird der Verfassungsschutz wegen seiner Verbindungen zur rechtsextremen Szene thematisiert und stark kritisiert. In Österreich hingegen werden die Befugnisse der Sicherheitspolizei scheinbar kritiklos erweitert.
Im Jahr 2000 wurde die „erweiterte Gefahrenerforschung“ eingeführt. Bis dahin konnten Ermittlungen erst bei Verdacht auf eine schon begangene Straftat aufgenommen werden. Seit 2000 reicht dafür der Verdacht auf eine bevorstehende Gefahr aus. Wer oder was eine solche Gefahr darstellt oder möglicherweise in der Zukunft darstellen könnte, liegt im Ermessen der Polizeibehörden. Kein Wunder also, dass bei der Beurteilung Vorurteile und Gesinnungsfragen eine große Rolle spielen.
Ein Zitat von Peter Gridling, damals Chef der Einsatzgruppe zur Bekämpfung des Terrorismus (EBT) und heute Leiter des Bundesamts für Verfassungsschutz und Terrorismusbekämpfung (BVT), legt allerdings nahe, dass schon vor der Reform ähnlich ermittelt wurde, wenn auch ohne gesetzliche Absicherung: „Die Verankerung der Aufgabe der erweiterten Gefahrenerforschung war ein wichtiger Schritt, eine Rechtsgrundlage für Vorfeldarbeit, die der Staatspolizei in der Vergangenheit immer als rechtswidrig angelastet wurde.“?

Wednesday marks Independence Day here in the United States. Beyond the fireworks and barbecue, July 4th serves as an important reminder of the need to hold governments accountable, especially on behalf of those who may not have a chance to do so themselves.
With that in mind, today we’re unveiling our first Twitter Transparency Report. Inspired by the great work done by our peers @Google, the primary goal of this report is to shed more light on:
government requests received for user information,
government requests received to withhold content, and
DMCA takedown notices received from copyright holders.

ACTA Supporters In Europe Fighting To The Bitter End
As Techdirt has reported over the last few months, the passage of ACTA through the European Union's approval process has been little short of extraordinary. At the end of last year, ACTA seemed almost certain to be approved without difficulty. Then, inspired by the Internet community's success in stopping SOPA, European citizens woke up to ACTA's problems and took to the streets in huge numbers.
The first ACTA rapporteur resigned, and the second later came out firmly against ACTA. The main European political parties announced their opposition to ACTA, except for the largest, the EPP Group. More recently, five out of five European Parliament committees recommended that the European Parliament should reject ACTA in the plenary vote on ratification.

God particle is 'found': Scientists at Cern expected to announce on Wednesday Higgs boson particle has been discovered
Scientists at Cern will announce that the elusive Higgs boson 'God Particle' has been found at a press conference next week, it is believed.
Five leading theoretical physicists have been invited to the event on Wednesday - sparking speculation that the particle has been discovered.
Scientists at the Large Hadron Collider are expected to say they are 99.99 per cent certain it has been found - which is known as 'four sigma' level.

Syrischer Bürgerkrieg mit Schweizer Waffen
In Syrien werden offenbar Waffen aus der Schweiz eingesetzt. Laut der «SonntagsZeitung» befinden sich Handgranaten vom bundeseigenen Rüstungsbetrieb Ruag in den Händen der Aufständischen. Wie die Waffen nach Syrien kamen, ist unklar.
Dies beweisen demnach Fotos aus der Ortschaft Marea. Die Aufnahmen wurden von einem Reporter gemacht, der die Aufständischen der Freien Syrischen Armee (FSA) im Kampfgebiet begleitet. Zu sehen sind Handgranaten vom Typ «OHG92». Der Reporter sei vor Ort auf Kartons voller Handgranaten aus der Schweiz hingewiesen worden. «Die Aufständischen haben versichert, dass Granaten dieses Typs bereits eingesetzt wurden», teilt der Reporter in der «SonntagsZeitung» weiter mit.

A new scandal threatens to engulf the Catholic Church and this time the focus is money. Senior Vatican officials are battling over the future of the Vatican bank. While some would like total transparency, dubious transactions from the past and present could harm the Church's image.
The Vatican scandal over shady bank accounts and millions in suspect transfers began shortly before sunrise on June 5 on Via Giuseppe Verdi, a picturesque street in the old part of Piacenza, a town in northeastern Italy. An elderly gentleman in a tailor-made suit had just left his house with a leather briefcase dangling from his right hand. He was on his way to his car.

Despite concerns about U.S.-made drones ending up in enemy hands, American military contractors are lobbying the government to loosen export restrictions and open up foreign markets to the unmanned aircraft that have reshaped modern warfare.
Companies such as Northrop Grumman Corp.and other arms makers are eager to tap a growing foreign appetite for high-tech — and relatively cheap — drones, already being sold on the world market by countries such as Israel and China.

Die Stoffe lassen sich billig im Labor produzieren und kommen als Pillen mit obskuren Logos oder als Pulver auf den Markt, illegal natürlich.

Colombia decriminalizes cocaine, marijuana
Colombia has decriminalized cocaine and marijuana, saying that people cannot be jailed for possessing the drugs for personal use.
Anyone caught with less 20 grams (0.705 ounces) of marijuana or one gram (0.035 ounces) of cocaine for personal use will not be prosecuted or detained, but could be required to receive physical or psychological treatment, depending on their level of intoxication, according to Colombia Reports. Colombian Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said law enforcement would continue its fight against drug trafficking, but would not make further comment.
