Aufruhr beim Österreichischen Rundfunk
Der Österreichische Rundfunk wehrt sich gegen die Einflussnahme politischer Parteien: ORF-Intendant Alexander Wrabetz wollte einen smarten 25-Jährigen an den Gremien vorbei zum Büroleiter machen. Dagegen haben über tausend Mitarbeiter des Senders nun eine Protestresolution unterzeichnet.
Unter dem Titel "Für einen unabhängigen ORF" zeigt in Österreich eine Unterschriftenaktion gegen parteipolitisch motivierte Postenbesetzungen den Unmut der Redaktionsmitglieder mit der Personalpolitik des Intendanten Alexander Wrabetz: "Während Dienstposten in den Redaktionen in längst unerträglichem Ausmaß reduziert werden, gibt es für Stellen, die zur Erfüllung parteipolitischer Wünsche neu geschaffen werden, offenbar Geld. Wir fordern von der Geschäftsführung alle Vorhaben, die das Ansehen des ORF als unabhängiges Medienunternehmen beschädigen, zurückzunehmen".

Internet freedom has won the day in Sweden as the religion The Missionary Church of Kopimism has been officially recognized by the government, instigating a new discussion on legality, spirituality and the shaky fate of our greatest collective achievement to date: the Net.
"The copying and sharing of information shouldn't be illegal, but it should be encouraged," said 20-year old philosophy student and Kopimism founder Isak Gerson. Gerson may have tapped into not only the zeitgeist but also his peer group as well. German Court: ISP Must Not Block Access To Foreign Sites, Even If They Are Illegal
Against a background where some European courts are telling ISPs that they must block access to certain sites (in Finland and the UK, for example), this news from Germany comes as a refreshing change (original German article in Der Spiegel):
Deutsche Telekom must allow access to online betting sites, even if they are illegal in Germany. So ruled the Cologne Administrative Court on Thursday.</p>

Has Israel Been Killing Iran’s Nuclear Scientists?
Circumstantial evidence suggests the Mossad is responsible for a string of slayings of Iran’s nuclear experts, most recently Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan. At the very least Israel’s defense establishment would like allies to believe its spies have pulled off these “events that happen unnaturally.”
Six weeks ago in Washington, on the sidelines of a major U.S.-Israeli meeting known as the “strategic dialogue,” Israeli Mossad officers were quietly and obliquely bragging about the string of explosions in Iran. “They would say things like, ‘It’s not the best time to be working on Iranian missile design,’” one U.S. intelligence official at the December parley told The Daily Beast.

Handcuffed man steals police car
Blankenship was pulled over for speeding on Tuesday, handcuffed with his hands behind his back and put in the back seat of a police car after an officer reported seeing drug paraphernalia in his car, authorities said.
As the officer checked the suspect’s car, Blankenship drove off with the police car, which was found on Wednesday in a pond.

Wer Zensurmaßnahmen per Tunnel zu externen Proxy-Servern umgehen will, kann dafür Protokolle nutzen, die immer zur Verfügung stehen – etwa HTTPS. Ein speziell konfigurierter Apache-Webserver dient als externer Proxy.
Viele Unternehmen sowie manche Länder gewähren nur gefilterten Zugriff auf das Internet. Einen Ausweg aus solchen Sperren bietet ein externer Proxy unter eigener Kontrolle. Wenn die Zugriffe auf ihn wie gewöhnlicher HTTPS-Datenverkehr aussehen, funktioniert das durch die meisten Firewalls hindurch und minimiert das Risiko einer Entdeckung.

Malicious Software Attacks Security Cards Used by Pentagon
Chinese hackers have deployed a new cyber weapon that is aimed at the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department and potentially a number of other United States government agencies and businesses, security researchers say.
Researchers at AlienVault, a Campbell, Calif., security company, said on Thursday that they had uncovered a new variant of some malicious software called Sykipot that targets smart cards used by government employees to access restricted servers and networks. Traces of Sykipot malware have been found in cyberattacks dating back to 2006, but AlienVault’s researchers say this is the first time Sykipot has compromised smart cards.
