Massive Setback for Merkel: Greens Score Big in Key German State
It is being hailed as the start of a new political era in Germany. The Green Party looks set to appoint its first state governor after Sunday's election in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The result is a huge setback for Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Fukushima disaster has had, and will have, many consequences around the world. One of the more unlikely, however, appears to be the results of Sunday's election in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg, where skepticism about nuclear power helped propel the Green Party to a historic victory over Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
The Greens doubled their share of the vote to 24.2 percent, according to preliminary results released by the state electoral commission. They are now likely to govern the state in a coalition with the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), which secured 23.1 percent of the vote, down 2 percent from the last election in 2006. In what would be a first for Germany, the Greens, as the senior partner in the coalition, will likely appoint the state governor.

Graphing Earthquake and Radiation Data in Japan
These graphs of Earthquake and Radiation Data in Japan are made from various data sources which are quoted below and underneath each image. I made these as quite a few people are getting confused with all the numbers floating around and to show in an easily viewable format the levels that are being stated.
The Radiation Graphs are made from data from mobile monitoring posts setup by the Prefectural Offices (Local Council / Local Government) in the areas. I am focusing on these as they are only in Japanese and provide a different view on the MEXT data that everyone else is graphing.

Japan trying to remove highly radioactive water at troubled nuke plant
Work to remove highly radioactive water from inside buildings at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi plant continued Monday, with the radiation level of a pool in the basement of the No. 2 reactor's turbine building measured at more than 1,000 millisieverts per hour.
Removal of such water in four reactor units is necessary to reduce the risk of more workers being exposed to radioactive substances, as the risk hinders efforts to restore the plant's crippled cooling functions, which are crucial to overcoming the crisis.

Fukushima: "Teilweise Kernschmelze" in Reaktor 2

News, the way the Libyan authorities want it to be reported
The al-Nasr Hotel Tannoy is piped into every room so you can't escape. It's Moussa again – Moussa Ibrahim the ubiquitous, articulate but increasingly stressed Libyan government spokesman. He's got a PhD in Media Studies, he says, from "Royal Holloway University".
"All journalists to gather for bus trip to Bani Walid. You will meet members of the Warfallah tribe and some of the families of those killed in the bombing. The bus will be leaving in half an hour. You will be back in Tripoli early in the afternoon," he says.

Eman al-Obeidi has been released by Gaddafi forces. Her mother tells reporters she is proud of her daughter
The mother of a woman who burst into a Tripoli hotel and said that she had been raped by government militiamen hailed her daughter as a hero Sunday and said government officials offered her money and a house to change her story.
Aisha Ahmed, contacted by telephone at her home in Tobruk, in the rebel-held eastern part of the country, said she was proud of the courage displayed by her daughter, Iman al-Obaidi, whose outburst Saturday was broadcast worldwide.
“I am very happy, very proud,” said Ahmed, who described her daughter as a 26-year-old law student in Tripoli.

UPDATE ON EMAN: There are unconfirmed claims by the Gaddafi Regime that Eman was released and is safe. There is NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE to support their claims. The Regime's history with making false statements gives us EVERY REASON to fear for her safety and continue to demand her immediate release.
update:
Family of Eman Al-Obeidi DENY claims she is free, sister now missing too
Libyan press has announced that Eman has now been freed, and is resting at home with her mother and sisters. She may be giving an interview to one or two female reporters, they promised. A Gadaffi spokesman has told foreign press that five men, one of whom may be the son of a top-ranking Police Officer, have been arrested in connection with the alleged beating, torture and rape of Eman Al-Obeidi. None of this can be confirmed by journalists, who are held captive in the hotel in Tripoli where the woman approached them Saturday. Her family, however, deny that this is true. In fact, they say, her sister Amal has also been detained. They received a phone call last night from a government spokesman at three a.m. offering them a new house, money, anything they wished as long as they retracted Eman's statement....
