'Serious' cyber attack on EU bodies before summit

The EU has reported a "serious" cyber attack on the Commission and External Action Service on the eve of a summit in Brussels, a spokesman told the BBC.

Crucial decisions on the future structure of the EU, economic strategy and the ongoing war in Libya are to be discussed at the two-day talks.

Details were not given but other sources compared the attack to a recent assault on France's finance ministry.

Syria's Revolt: How Graffiti Stirred an Uprising

The words have been repeated from Tunisia to Egypt, from Yemen to Bahrain. "The people want the regime to fall" — the mantra of revolution. And so, last week, after 15 kids wrote those words on a wall in the agricultural town of Dara'a in southern Syria, the local governor decided to come down hard. The young people — all under 17 — were thrown in jail. The punishment stunned the town and, suddenly, Syria — so confidently authoritarian — got its first strong taste of rebellion in what is called the Arab Spring.

Clinton On Libya: Gaddafi Is 'Game Playing' But Could Be Looking For Exit Strategy

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking with ABC's Diane Sawyer, said that Gaddafi was engaged in "theater" and "game playing," but that he might be looking for an exit strategy.

After claiming that allies have allegedly been reaching out on Gaddafi's behalf, Clinton acknowledged that a lot of the Libyan leader's actions were "theater." However, she then added that "some of it, we think, is exploring. You know, what are my options, where could I go, what could I do. And we would encourage that."

Battles rage for control of Libyan towns

Libya has witnessed more intense fighting as forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, the country's embattled but defiant leader, continue to attack rebel positions across the North African state.

Undaunted by air strikes launched by coalition warplanes aimed at enforcing a no-fly zone, pro-Gaddafi forces have pressed ahead with their assaults on the towns of Misurata, Ajdabiya and Zintan in the past 24 hours.

US planes 'dropped two bombs' to protect downed pilot

US officials insisted that rescue crews did not fire their weapons when retrieving the pilot, contesting media reports that a squad of Marines came in with "all guns blazing" and wounding several civilians.

The pilot and his weapons officer bailed out of their F-15E Strike Eagle fighter over Benghazi when it became crippled by a mechanical fault during a bombing raid on Monday night.

Operation Odyssey Dawn explained (Day 4)

Day 4 of Odyssey Dawn opened with the news of the F-15E Strike Eagle (91-0304/LN 492FS) which crashed in Libya during the night approximately 40 kilometres to the east of Benghazi as reported by Daily Telegraph reporter Rob Crilly and his photographer who were the first international journalists to visit the scene. Both crew members ejected safely: one was recovered by coalition forces while the other was recovered by the rebels. This seems to prove that they ejected at high altitude and did not land next each other.
