Yemeni president's own tribe demands he step down

The Yemeni president's own tribe has called on him to step down after a deadly crackdown on protesters, robbing the embattled U.S.-backed leader of vital support in a society dominated by blood ties.

Some of the country's most important religious leaders joined in the call for President Ali Abdullah Saleh's resignation, and his human rights minister announced she was quitting as tens of thousands joined a burial procession for some of the more than 40 protesters slain by government gunmen Friday.

Updated list of Resignations in Yemen

Update: Following Friday's shooting in Sanaa a number of officials in the ruling GPC party have submitted their resignations.

Below is an up-dated list that continues from this earlier post.

I will add more updates as they become available.

Waq al-waq has decided, in keeping with protests in Yemen, to keep a running tally of people resigning from the ruling GPC. It very much looks like people are abandoning ship.

This list only represent those who resigned in protest or to join the protesters, not those who were fired or forced out.

For the first time since demonstrators began camping out in front of Sana University calling for an end to the rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the country’s opposition leaders attended the protest as a group on Saturday afternoon to voice their support. In a sign of widening alarm at the government’s response to the demonstrations, several ministers and officials quit their posts.

Japan reluctant to disclose footage of power plant taken by U.S. drone

The Manichai Daily news reports that the Japanese government has in its possession video footage of the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant taken by a U.S. military reconnaissance drone, but has yet to release the footage to the public, sources have revealed.

The footage taken from an RQ-4 Global Hawk drone was passed on to the Japanese government with permission for public release from the U.S. Air Force. U.S. military sources said that the decision to release the footage — or not — was up to the Japanese government.
