Trucker flips his rig after masturbating while driving
A German trucker suspected of driving under the influence of drugs crashed his vehicle near Borås in western Sweden on Tuesday. He subsequently admitted to masturbating at the time of the accident.

G20 protesters blasted by sonic cannon
Only a few hundreds protesters took to the streets of Pittsburgh to mark the opening day of the G20 summit of world leaders, but the police were taking no chances.
Sonic weapons or long-range acoustic devices have been used by the US military overseas, notably against Somali pirates and Iraqi insurgents.

Österreichs neuer Revoluzzer gibt Anlass zur Hoffnung
Kaum hat die Amtszeit des steirischen Landtagspräsidenten Kurt Flecker (SPÖ) begonnen, schwärmt er vom „Amsterdamer Modell“, was ihn „beeindruckt“ habe. Dort sei ein Rückgang beim Konsum harter Drogen feststellbar, außerdem gebe es durch eine Legalisierung eine „gewisse Qualitätskontrolle, weil es nicht mehr notwendig ist, den Stoff zu strecken“.

War on drugs 40 years on
First announced by President Nixon in 1969, the war on drugs’ forty-year old effort of aggressive criminalization, interdiction and eradication has left a high body-count.
Critics argue that it has driven the drug trade underground, fueling transnational organized crime, corruption, and narcoinsurgency around the world. And many blame the war on drugs for the heavy US incarceration rate, the highest in the world.

California mulls legalising marijuana
In 1996, voters in California approved a referendum that made it legal for the first time in decades in the US for people to consume cannabis for medicinal purposes.
More than a dozen states have followed suit since and several others - the most recent of which is Massachusetts - have approved laws decriminalising the possession of small amounts of the drug.
