U2´s Vienna comeback gig snubbed by Jehovah’s Witnesses
Rock superstars U2 will not have a Vienna live comeback appearance this year as a Jehovah’s Witnesses’ event is blocking the stadium on the band’s preferred days.
The Irish four-piece reportedly planned to return to Austria on 7 or 8 August to perform at Vienna’s 51,000-seat Ernst Happel Stadium. However, the religious group has already leased the venue to hold a mass christening on both those days.

Major cache of fossils unearthed in L.A.
A nearly intact mammoth, dubbed Zed, is among the remarkable discoveries near the La Brea tar pits. It's the largest known repository of Pleistocene ice age fossils.
Workers excavating an underground garage on the site of an old May Co. parking structure in Los Angeles' Hancock Park got more than just a couple hundred new parking spaces. They found the largest known cache of fossils from the last ice age, an assemblage that has flabbergasted paleontologists.

This classified ad from a former marijuana smuggler looking for work was apparently placed in a Toronto paper (the Toronto Star? The Globe and Mail? The National Post?) around 2006 or 2007. It's got a lot of moxie -- certainly being a successful dope runner requires a fair bit of self-starting get-up-and-go and precision organizing. Still, I'm not convinced it's real -- anyone know more about it?

Raids seize £50m of Afghan heroin
Hundreds of British and Afghan troops have seized heroin and drug-making chemicals in Afghanistan with a street value of more than £50m ($71m).
Defence Secretary John Hutton praised the troops' bravery and said the seizures in Helmand province would starve the Taleban of funding.
The raids on four drug factories, involving 700 troops, would also stop the drugs reaching UK streets, he said.

Steal This Film: Pirate Bay Trial edition
The creators of the Pirate Bay documentary "Steal This Film" have released footage from their next installment in honor of the trial of the Pirate Bay's founders (yesterday's hearings ended with a bang, when the prosecution dropped half the charges -- the more serious half -- after realizing they couldn't make the case stick).
