Argentina Decriminalizes Marijuana Use
A federal court in Argentina has decriminalized the recreational use of Marijuana, in a political move that has been in the works for months. The ruling must still be presented in front of the Argentinean Supreme Court before it’s official, but the move sets precedent in regards to the government’s view on the societal and personal dangers of the drug.

Dr.Nachtstrom

Beruf: Anwalt, Nebenjob: Drogenkurier

A History of Hallucinogens
A promising new documentary airing on the History Channel this month, Peyote To LSD: A Psychedelic Odyssey, explores the colorful history of hallucinogenic drugs. The film is hosted by noted anthropologist Wade Davis, author of The Serpent & The Rainbow. Dr. Andrew Weil, LSD inventor Albert Hoffman, and the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir are all featured in the film. Davis traces the life and adventures of Richard Evans Schultes, an acclaimed botanist who travelled the world in search of ayuhuasca, peyote, and other ritualistic psychedelics. Davis follows in Schultes' footsteps, seeking the same experiences, and examining the different cultural attitudes towards the perceived helpful or harmful effects of powerful hallucinogens.

The Six Wives of Timothy Leary
Here is an interesting take on Timothy Leary's life. The Six Wives of Timothy Leary is a play which examines his life from the perspective of the six women he married during his adventure-filled life.
Both review links are from the play's debut in a one month run in London which ended December 9th. I also included a MySpace profile for the play which has a lot of images and bits of blogged information about the play:
Timandrosemary John Higgs, author of the Leary biography I Have America Surrounded says this about the play:
As any Learyphile will tell you, you get the Timothy Leary you deserve. Such is the ever-shifting nature of his character that he is almost impossible for a writer to depict without revealing far more about themselves than about him. Over the last couple of decades he has defeated many a Hollywood screenwriter who has tried but failed to crack the illusive ‘Leary script.’ All of which makes the achievement of first-time dramatist Philip de Gouveia all the more impressive, for his approach to the story is the simplest, smartest and most original that I have ever come across. Simply put, he ignores Tim and tells his story through his wives.

Amy Winehouse was in trouble after she was alleged to have attacked two men while on a drug bender. The police would be talking to her soon.
Amy was alleged to have punched a victim in his face. Mustapha el Mounmi had refused to give way to her at the pool table and she punched him. Amy was said to have thrown drinks and overturned tables in one bar. She was heard screaming, “I am a legend……. I want to take drugs.”

It's Just A Plant
It's Just a Plant is an illustrated children's book about marijuana. It follows the journey of a young girl as she learns about the plant from a diverse cast of characters including her parents, a local farmer, a doctor, and a police officer.
It's Just a Plant does not advocate marijuana use for children. The book explicitly addresses the potential harm of drug abuse and insists that marijuana is something not to be experimented with by children.

Happy 420 - Smoke 'em if you got 'em!
4:20 ... the smokers time of day. Pot heads around the world are celebrating "420 Day" in honor of their favorite controlled substance. We thought we'd remind them since studies show that marijuana interferes with the short-term memory of it's users. Also, you should know that marijuana interferes with the short-term memory of it's users.

Afghanistan swaps heroin for wheat
I've just come from a meeting with the newly appointed Afghan governor Gulab Mangal where it emerged that for the first time since British forces deployed to the region two years ago local farmers are not concentrating all their energies on producing heroin.
Poppy eradication was flagged up as one of the main British priorities when former defence secretary John Reid first announced Britain's deployment two years ago.
