Video of Young Amy Winehouse Hopelessly Devoted to Something Other Than Crack

Sometimes, lost home video footage of celebrities as children can be worth its weight in digital gold. (Which, strangely, is worth nothing.) If I ever work my way up to a coveted spot as one of the Flavor of Love contestants, for example, I would hate — hate – to see that footage of me in my Kindergarten Hanukkah Musical standing tall and proud as the Shamash (or tall middle candle), belting out the Dreidel song while simultaneously blocking me neighbors face with my flamboyant hand gestures.

Its been six hundred and twenty-two days since an American-registered DC9 airliner, "tricked out" to look like an airplane from the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, took off from the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Int'l Airport and was busted in Mexico carrying 5.5 tons of cocaine.

How the Nazis Stole Christmas

A seasonal tale of politics, propaganda and paganism in Hitler's Third Reich. If the Nazis were sworn enemies of Christianity, why were they so obsessed with Christmas? And how did they square celebrating the season of goodwill with their racialist policies?

30 Years of LucasFilm Christmas Cards

I live down the street from LucasFilm, and I’ve even been in the facilities in The Presidio, but I’m not on the LucasFilm Holiday Card List. For the last 30 years, Lucasfilm has created special holiday greeting cards for its employees and business partners.

The 1981 Card featured a painting by Ralph McQuarrie of Yoda wearing a Santa outfit

Senate set to forgive telcos for spying on Americans with the NSA: TAKE ACTION NOW!

Tim from the Electronic Frontier Foundation sez, "At EFF, we've just sent out an urgent action alert. Monday morning, the Foreign Intelligence Service Bill bill finally goes to the Senate floor, and at noon the Senate will cast their most important votes yet on Telecom Immunity for participation in massive, nationwide illegal NSA wiretapping. We've set up an action alert page for Boing Boing readers to contact their Senators, and would be much obliged if you could share the link."

E911 document podcast: Historic, incredibly dull technical document read aloud

For the past 24 weeks, I've been reading Bruce Sterling's classic 1992 nonfiction book The Hacker Crackdown aloud on my podcast. The Hacker Crackdown was the first free online book I ever heard of, and it tells the engrossing story of the 1990 "Operation Sundevil" Secret Service sweep of hackers, which led to the formation of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, my former employer.

Botnets linked to political hacking in Russia

Security researcher Jose Nazario has uncovered circumstantial Devidence of the use of botnets in politically-motivated denial of service attacks.

Political events in the wider world are sometimes accompanied by hacking incidents in cyberspace, such as defacements and the like. Nobody paid much attention to the issue until the Estonian DDoS events of earlier this year when government and commercial sites in the small Baltic country were taken offline for days in April amid a row with Russia about relocation of a Soviet-era memorial to fallen soldiers and war graves.

Week five of the Hans Reiser murder trial zeroed in on the strange behavior witnesses said the Linux programmer exhibited immediately following his wife's disappearance.

In four days of testimony, witnesses said that Reiser, the 43-year-old developer of open-source file systems, appeared nervous and was seen washing his driveway while wearing thick clothes on a hot summer night two days after his wife, Nina Reiser, disappeared.
