Western Digital drive is DRM-crippled for your safety
Western Digital's 1TB My Book World Edition external hard drive has been crippled by DRM for your safety.
A kindly Reg reader tipped us off that the remote-access HDD won't share media files over network connections. Which is, as you can see here, the entire stinking point of it.
It's a scary world full of potentially unlicensed media. We're fortunate there's a hard drive vendor willing to step forward and do some indiscriminate policing for us.
From the WD site:
"Due to unverifiable media license authentication, the most common audio and video file types cannot be shared with different users using WD Anywhere Access."

Campaign to name US street after Douglas Adams
A group of American Douglas Adams fans are seeking to have a street named after him in Portland, Oregon. The chosen street - naturally - is currently called 42nd Avenue.
"On May 11, 2001 a very talented writer and activist was taken from this world far before his time," say the activists of rename42nd.org.
"Not yet 50 years of age, Douglas Adams passed on and left a legacy for all that would come after him."

Jamiroquai has a new website
Disco, funk, soul and a site redesign. Jamiroquai has a new website that’s targeting the web 2.0 crowd. Groovy. I must admit that I’m a Jamiroquai fan, and I’m pretty happy with the changes made to the band’s website. There’s a new focus on music videos, along with music. An adoption of viral content management includes the use of YouTube for video display, instead of the thumbnail offering that adorned the previous version of th site. More interaction by fans (I mean, users) lets you participate more on the site, and take more from the site as well.

Stockhausen, prolific music modernist, dies aged 79
Karlheinz Stockhausen, a controversial giant of musical modernism whose works were seldom embraced by mainstream concert audiences, has died at the age of 79, it was announced yesterday.
Prolific, whether in fashion or out of it, he composed 362 works, including the world's longest opera, Licht, a sequence of seven pieces, one for every day of the week. The work lasts 29 hours. News of his death was released by the clarinettist Suzanne Stephens and flautist Kathinka Pasveer, two "companions" who had been associated with him for more than 30 years and performed many of his works.
