Regierung will Zugriff auf IP-Adressen
SPÖ und ÖVP wollen am Donnerstag einen Änderungsantrag für die Novellierung des Sicherheitspolizeigesetzes einbringen, der der Polizei bei Gefahr im Verzug auch den Zugriff auf IP-Adressen ohne Richtervorbehalt erlauben soll.
Wie die ARGE Daten am Donnerstag mitgeteilt hat, liegt ihr ein Abänderungsantrag der Sicherheitssprecher von ÖVP und SPÖ, Günter Kößl und Rudolf Parnigoni, für die von Datenschützern bereits heftig kritisierte Novelle des Sicherheitspolizeigesetzes [SPG] vor.

Mafia boss arrested while watching Mafia TV show
Police said Michele Catalano was watching the concluding chapter late Thursday of the TV mini-series "The Boss of Bosses," recounting the arrest in 1993 of real-life Cosa Nostra leader Salvatore "Toto" Riina, when he was detained.

Immer mehr PCs werden von Hackern gekidnappt, zum Versand von Spam-Mails oder für Hackangriffe missbraucht. Die Computerbenutzer bekommen davon meist nichts mit. Doch die Netze gekaperter Computer stellen eine große Gefahr dar, besonders für Deutschland.

Microsoft will auf Mini-Notebooks
Um Windows auch den Nutzern in Schwellenländern schmackhaft zu machen, möchte Microsoft sein Betriebssystem Windows XP nun auch auf den XO der OLPC-Initiative portieren. Außerdem wird Microsoft Anfang 2008 Richtlinien für den Einsatz von XP auf Mobilgeräten veröffentlichen.

Thief uses flower pot to steal Porsche
Reversing out of his open garage, the car's owner heard a scraping noise and got out to investigate, police in the western city of Bonn said Tuesday.
As the 56-year-old was bending down to remove a flower pot jammed against a tire, a man pushed him aside, leaped behind the wheel and drove off in his grey Porsche 997 Turbo.

New Device Stops Cars Instantly in their Tracks
A new device may make car chases a thing of the past.
Eureka Aerospace , a company from Pasadena, Calif., had developed a device that shoots a microwave beam at a speeding car, frying its electrical system and stopping the car dead in its tracks.

Inside the "Ron Paul" Spam Botnet
On the weekend of October 27, 2007, the Internet was suddenly bombarded with a rash of spam emails promoting U.S. presidential candidate Ron Paul. The spam run continued until Tuesday, October 30, when it stopped as suddenly as it began. At the same time, political blogs began to light up, accusing the campaign (or at least its ardent supporters) of running a criminal botnet for political purposes. We decided to cut through the spin and take a closer look at this botnet to determine its origins and shine some light on who might be responsible.

Auction watchdog says eBay is illegal in France
A French Government watchdog is trying to shut down eBay in France. The Council of Sales regulates auction houses and has said that the site should be bound by strict French auction rules.
The French eBay site does not have one of the Council's permits to operate as an auctions service and so does not have to abide by regulations which were made law in 2000. This, said the Council, gives it an unfair advantage and should change.

French high court thumps Google Video
A French high court has added some extra spice to the legal debate over online video sharing.
In mid-October, the High Court of the First Instance of Paris issued a ruling against Google Video after it was sued by a Paris-based film company called Zadig Productions. Naturally, Zadig was peeved that Google was hosting one of its films, and the court slapped the web giant for copyright infringement.
