The State of Museums 10 Years After Bilbao
Ten years after the Guggenheim opened its extremely successful Frank Gehry outpost in Bilbao, a museum-building boom is occurring worldwide. Digg close to a $300 million sale
Digg is close to announcing its sale to a major media player for $300 million to $400 million, according to sources close to the company, I hear. When I floated this Digg rumor past some knowledgeable friends, several scoffed: "When isn't Digg up for sale?" It's true: The news-discussion site is perpetually in talks -- but we hear the price tag always sinks potential deals before they're consummated.

Indoor cultivation and potency on the rise
Indoor cannabis culitvation is increasing in some areas of the country as growers attempt to avoid outdoor eradication and attain higher profits through production of indoor-grown high-potency marijuana. Federal, state and local law enforcement reporting indicates that vigorous outdoor cannabis eradication efforts have caused many marijuana producers, particularly Caucasian groups, to relocate indoors even in leading outdoor grow states such as California and Tennessee. In addition to the reduced risk of detection, indoor cannabis cultivators benefit from higher profits because cultivation is a year-round process with four to six harvests per year and controlled conditions that enable growers to produce high-quality marijuana that commands higher prices in most drug markets. These factors have contributed to a sharp increase in indoor culitvation reported by law enforcement.

Illegal drug GHB found in children's toy
Toys made in China were being seized and tested in Hong Kong today after scientists in Australia found that similar toys contained a chemical that converts into an illegal drug when ingested, officials said.
At least five children in the United States and Australia have been hospitalised after swallowing the toy beads, which are used for arts and crafts projects. They can be arranged into designs and fused when sprayed with water.

NASA satellites to predict and prevent infectious disease outbreaks
NASA and its Applied Sciences Program will be using 14 satellites to watch the Earth’s environment and help predict and prevent infectious disease outbreaks around the world.
Through orbiting satellites, data is collected daily to monitor environmental changes. That information is then passed on to agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Defense who then apply the data to predict and track disease outbreaks and assist in making public health policy decisions. The use of remote sensing technology helps scientists predict the outbreak of some of the most common and deadly infectious diseases such as Ebola, West Nile virus and Rift Valley Fever.

Linux Engineer Reiser Coaxed Son to Cover up Mom's Murder -- Update
Hans Reiser, the Linux engineer who is a black belt in judo, might have strangled his estranged wife to death and possibly coaxed his 6-year-old son to help cover it up, a prosecutor told jurors here Wednesday during the second day of Reiser's murder trial.
"There are a lot of different chokes," said prosecutor Paul Hora, as he explained the art of judo. "It's fast. It's quiet. It's deadly."

Prince threatens to sue his fans over online images
He's a singer who has made some odd career moves in his time, from changing his name to an unpronounceable love symbol to scrawling "slave" on his cheek in protest at his record company.
But industry experts yesterday warned that Prince's latest decision might be the most controversial of all.
He has threatened to sue thousands of his biggest fans for breach of copyright, provoking an angry backlash and claims of censorship.
