Spared jail, the teaching assistant who gave children cannabis so they wouldn't go to dealers
A teaching assistant who gave her children cannabis was spared jail yesterday after a judge heard she did it to stop them visiting street dealers.
Nicola Cooper, 43, intervened when she learned her teenage son and daughter had experimented with the drug.

Cashing in on endless cocaine
VILLAGERS living on Nicaragua's remote Mosquito Coast are living like the rich thanks to tonnes of free cocaine washing up on their shores. The bags of cocaine, worth millions of dollars, are coming from Colombian speedboats on "narco-routes" which drop the booty overboard if intercepted by US and Nicaraguan patrols, guardian.co.uk reported.

'End This War on Drugs'
Last week San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom called for an end to the war on drugs yet insisted he was not talking about legalization. Yeah, I'm not sure what that means either, but his remarks were refreshing both for their candor and for their challenge to his fellow Democrats:

Radiohead's new downloadable album
An update on the new album from Radiohead, "In Rainbows," which will be available via download starting at midnight tonight: it's absolutely DRM-free, according to an announcement today on the band's website. Now, I know I wasn't the only one who had problems actually ordering and paying for the tracks, and there's been much griping around the web about problems with their online store...
