Drunken German joyrider kills 300 chickens

Three hundred chickens died in panic early on Sunday when a drunken German teenager on a joyride crashed a van into their shed, police said.

"Apparently some of the chickens were so desperate to get away that they ran into the wall and died," the spokesman said. "Others suffered heart attacks."

Man plans record skydive from edge of space

A retired French army colonel is aiming to take a stratospheric leap into the record books by completing a 1000mph skydive from the edge of space.

Aiming to become the first human being to break the sound barrier in free-fall, Michel Fournier will ascend to an altitude of 25 miles in a helium-filled weather balloon before plunging to earth at supersonic speed.

After years of training, millions of pounds of funding and numerous thwarted attempts, the daredevil Frenchman is expected to make the jump over the Saskatchewan plains in Canada next month.

Filmmakers Chase Their Dream -- on a Segway

Josh Caldwell and Hunter Weeks were bored with their cubicle-farm jobs, making good money but feeling empty and unfulfilled. Like many white-collar workers, they dreamed of a life beyond the veal-fattening pens. But unlike most, they found a unique way to bust out of their corporate prison: They rode a Segway, at 10 mph, from Seattle to Boston, and in the process turned themselves into filmmakers.

Sloooow-Dancing at 3,000 Frames Per Second

Time flies when you're having fun. Unless you're photographer David Michalek. Then it practically stands still. The proof is in Michalek's latest project, Slow Dancing, which was on view this summer outside the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center. On a rainy Manhattan night, Michalek explains to me what he had to go through to create his epic work of art — super-slow-motion, hi-def films of 45 dancers leaping, pirouetting, and stomping. The images are projected on three screens, each five stories high.
