Surfers frolic amongst sharks

ENJOYING the waves on a sunny Sydney day, these unsuspecting surfers have no idea there are killers lurking just metres away.

But, as these amazing satellite photographs show, the surfers were not the only creatures in the water when the cameras captured some of Sydney's most popular beaches.

Microsoft Doesn’t Care About Destroying Linux

Everywhere I turn these days, I continue to hear how “Novell” sold Linux users down the river. And while I partially agree with this perspective, I do differ with those who say Xandros did the same thing. Xandros is simply looking to make sure that fluidity between the Linux desktop and Windows desktop is as smooth as possible. Heck, they did not even share which of these alleged patents were being violated whatsoever to the Linux company. Unfortunately, another company has made a deal with Microsoft, and it is not who you might expect either.

iPhone hackers disclose vulns and hunt for clues

The game is on for hackers trying to spot security vulnerabilities in Apple's iPhone and already they're scoring points. Less than 72 hours after the iPhone's introduction, researchers have reported at least one flaw that could allow an attacker some level of control over the device, while other hackers have uncovered passwords hiding in Apple software that could prove key in gaining root access, they said.

The most serious flaw, reported by Errata Security, resides in the iPhone's Safari browser. By effecting a buffer overflow in the application, an attacker can take control of the browser and run code on the device, said Robert Graham, CEO of Errata.

Color Inspiration from the Masters of Painting

The world has seen thousands of artists and millions of great pieces of art, but we chose just a handful of pieces of art from some of greatest masters of painting to show a little of how they were inspired by color… or perhaps, how they inspire us with color.

Brian Eno's Ever-Evolving Ambient Art

The North American premiere of 77 Million Paintings was presented by San Francisco's Long Now Foundation, an art collective established to pursue projects promoting a "slower and better" worldview. The show is one of Eno's "generative" works. He loads his images and sounds onto a computer, which plays them back randomly as an infinite set of permutations -- hence the title.
