'First west Europe tooth' found
Scientists in Spain say that they have found a tooth from a distant human ancestor that is more than one million years old.
The tooth, a pre-molar, was discovered on Wednesday at the Atapuerca site in northern Spain's Burgos Province.
It represented western Europe's "oldest human fossil remain", a statement from the Atapuerca Foundation said.
The foundation said it was awaiting final results before publishing its findings in a scientific journal.

EXACTLY 60 years ago, a light aircraft was flying over the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, at a height of around 3000m.
Suddenly, a brilliant flash of light illuminated the aircraft.
Visibility was good and as pilot Kenneth Arnold scanned the sky to find the source of the light, he saw a group of nine shiny metallic objects flying information.
He estimated their speed as being around 2600km/h - nearly three times faster than the top speed of any jet aircraft at the time.
Soon, similar reports began to come in from all over America.
This wasn't just the world's first UFO sighting, this was the birth of a phenomenon, one that still exercises an extraordinary fascination.

Mysterious "Night-Shining Clouds" Sighted
Still shrouded in mystery, these "night-shining clouds" were photographed illuminating the sky over Budapest, Hungary, on June 15.
They are among the first such noctilucent clouds pictured this year.
The clouds form in the upper layer of the Earth's atmosphere in summer.
Scientists don't know much about how the clouds form, or why they have been appearing more often at lower latitudes and glowing brighter.

The astonishing three-dimensional design, 200ft in diameter, has been created in a wheat field at Silbury Hill, Wiltshire.

Factual Eyewitness Testimony Of: UFO Encounters [mp3]
I have had this 2LP set so long I can't recall how I got it, it may originally been made available through sc-fi mags but I'm not sure.
The listener is treated to a brief history of UFO sightings, what constitutes a UFO and close encounters as well as some great recordings of abductees under hypnosis! The inner gatefold is chock-full of photos and drawings of saucers, aliens and the witnesses. Why aren't there more investigations, WHY?!?!?

Anger at Prince free CD giveaway
The music industry has reacted angrily at a decision to give away the new album by US musician Prince with a tabloid newspaper.
Planet Earth will be given free with a future edition of the Mail on Sunday.
The 10-track CD from Prince - whose hits include Purple Rain, Sign O' The Times and Cream - is not due to be released until 24 July.

Where Have All the Rock Stars Gone?
James Brown's death last December was a much more pointed, and poignant, marker of the changing role of popular music in American culture than the current exhibition at the Whitney Museum of Art celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love.
While the San Francisco counterculture did exemplify the importance of music to the 1960s youth movement, Brown stands out as one who became more than just a musician. He was not only the inventor of funk and the Godfather of Soul; he was also Soul Brother No. 1, a leader about whom Look magazine could ask on its cover, "Is this the most important black man in America?" Today there is no popular musician, black or white, about whom something similar might be said. Brown's televised concert in Boston the day after the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated helped prevent riots in that city, while Los Angeles and Detroit burned. His "Say It Loud — I'm Black and I'm Proud," released later that year (1968), became the anthem of the black-power movement. Through it all, Brown never made stylistic concessions to attract a crossover audience, yet, as he himself observed, he lived the American dream, going literally from rags to riches.

New Senegal record cocaine haul
Senegal has made its biggest seizure of cocaine - about 1.25 tons with a street value of $100m - just a few days after the previous record haul.
The drugs were found in the seaside resort of Nianing after an empty sailing boat with 1.2 metric tons was found nearby last week.
