Hundreds view 'sweating' statue
Hundreds of Hindus in Nepal are flocking to see a statue of a deity which is said to be "sweating".
Devotees believe the apparent perspiration is a sign of impending turmoil or natural disaster. The statue of Bhimeshwor, who is worshipped as the Hindu God of trade and commerce in Nepal, has reportedly been sweating since Saturday.

Microsoft will not sue over Linux patents
Microsoft has said it has no immediate plans to sue after alleging patent infringements by open-source vendors.
In an official statement emailed to ZDNet UK, Microsoft confirmed that it would not litigate for now. Advertisement
"If we wanted to go down that road we could have done that three years ago," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "Rather than litigate, Microsoft has spent the last three years building an intellectual property bridge that works for all parties--including open source--and the customer response has been tremendously positive. Our focus is on continuing to build bridges."

Viagra reduces jet lag in hamsters
Argentinian reseachers have rather unaccountably discovered that Viagra helps ameliorate the effects of "jet lag" in hamsters, and might do the same for humans.
According to New Scientist, hamsters who were favoured with small doses of sildenafil, punted as Viagra, coped better with a simulated six-hour time-zone shift than their non-chemical-hardened chums - adapting to the jet lag up to 50 per cent faster.

Fury at Turkish ban on bikini ads
The bikini has become the latest item to offend the Islamic-oriented authorities in Turkey. After a bungled attempt to outlaw alcohol, municipal officials in Istanbul have set their sights on billboard advertisements of the skimpy swimsuit. The ban, revealed last week despite efforts by the mayor to play down the furore, has triggered outrage among swimsuit manufacturers.

It's in the final stages of FDA review, and could come to market as soon as the end of the year.

Military Grade DRM?
A company that has built a type of DRM technology for software used by the Defense Department is now trying to take that same technology and hit the commercial market as well. It's relatively expensive, so don't expect to see it on your next music CD or copy of Microsoft Word just yet.

Pilotless police drone takes off
The UK's first police remote control helicopter has taken off.
Merseyside police are using the "spy drone", fitted with CCTV cameras, mainly for tackling anti-social behaviour and public disorder.
A demonstration of a remotely controlled drone at the 23rd Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin. The drone model is a microdrones MD4-200, the price is about 10,000 Euros.
