Wedding party dines and dashes

A wedding party fled from a restaurant in the southern Austrian town of Villach over the weekend without paying for their feast.

The group, consisting of the newlyweds and about 30 guests, suddenly got up before dessert and left, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported.

One Drop Toilet Smell Eater Best Invention Ever!

Depending on your point of view (man or woman) this is just a cool invention or the best thing ever. There is now a liquid drop, called One Drop, for people (mainly men we're guessing again) to use in their toilet to get rid of the smells. While we're sure this was tested by normal people with normal turds, we're curious how 2 dudes on a diet of nachos and beer with a case of the "Green Apple Splatters" will fare with this product.

The 23 Phenomenon Robert Anton Wilson

With the release of The Number 23 earlier this year we paid tribute to the late, much lamented Robert Anton Wilson by reprinting this 1977 article from (you guessed it) Fortean Times 23.

I first heard of the 23 enigma from William S Burroughs, author of Naked Lunch, Nova Express, etc. According to Burroughs, he had known a certain Captain Clark, around 1960 in Tangier, who once bragged that he had been sailing 23 years without an accident. That very day, Clark’s ship had an accident that killed him and everybody else aboard. Furthermore, while Burroughs was thinking about this crude example of the irony of the gods that evening, a bulletin on the radio announced the crash of an airliner in Florida, USA. The pilot was another captain Clark and the flight was Flight 23.

As well as homing in on visual feasts around the globe, users of Google Earth may soon be able to listen to the sounds that accompany them.

A Californian company has created software that can layer relevant recorded sounds over locations in Google Earth, New Scientist reports.

Wild Sanctuary has over 3,500 hours of soundscapes from all over the world.

Biofuels Could Do More Harm Than Good, UN Report Warns

The global boom in biofuels is laden with environmental and social risks, even as it presents strong new prospects for mitigating human-caused global warming, a new UN study says.

The study also suggests that biofuels—energy sources derived from plant matter like corn or sugarcane—would serve better for heating and industrial power than for cars and buses, as is the current trend.

The Windows Mobile oPhone Video

Microsoft showed off at Mix yesterday a breakthrough new technology device, the Windows Mobile oPhone. Designed to compete with Apple’s iPhone, the oPhone is a fold out variable device with three different usable surfaces and a circular display.

The oPhone, in standard mode, is a thin, curvy device topped by a round screen and with the phone keypad surface below. Two other surfaces, the same size and shape as the keypad, can be flipped out. One has a full keyboard, the other a music player control with a wheel control and a few buttons. Flip out all three surfaces, and you have a device shaped like a three winged boomerang, and Microsoft claims it is aerodynamic enough to work exactly like that.
