Domino PCs: The Real Thing: 86 PCs in a row!

The best thing to come from the Dot Com crash... Domino PCs! 86 PCs lined up like dominos. Filmed on a saturday afternnon in Belmont, California, by an Irish bloke and a Spanish guy. The final attempt.... Everything goes well but the heavy machines near the end almost put a halt to the whole thing... thankfully there was enough weight behind the toppled machines to slowly topple the heavy ones!

Most of these PCs were then Given to charity or recycled as part of an overall hardware deal.

Top Ten Reasons Why Web 2.0 Sucks

The finger pointing culture of fear will always dominate a culture of openness. Media thrives on taking people down and creating a general fear of the worst possible outcome. Whether it's trying enact anti-MySpace laws or firing everyone who says a dirty word or two, until we hold our noses and fully embrace freedom of expression in this country, we're going to hold back the real potential of the internet as a medium of conversation and open exchange. Everyone will be too scared to publish anything thought provoking for fear of being stoned by glass house dwellers.

Hackety Hack

Nearly four years ago, I wrote an essay called The Little Coder's Predicament. It's not too unusual. Lots of others like it have been written. The point is: programming just isn't available to people like it was with the Commodore 64. I also outlined my requirements for a new cross-platform programming environment for beginners.

The essay was widely linked on Slashdot, Reddit, Lambda, etc. I got lots of mail from people who both agreed and disagreed. Great. Nice. Good people all of them! And yet, nothing has changed. Not really!

I've been told of the Xbox development kit and possible programming of Wii channels. The Playstation actually had a language. But none if it has met my criteria for a proper coding platform.

EU Approves New Stricter Anti-Piracy Directive

The European Parliament voted yes on the new controversial directive Ipred 2 which concludes that all kinds of infringement of the intellectual copyrights will be considered criminal. The directive is actually stricter than that and even criminalizes attempts of infringing on copyrights. In theory this means that basically all video sites, P2P developers and other services used to spread material around the web is criminal. There is an exception though and that is the end-user. If this user downloads pirated material and use this only for his own entertainment, study or research he or she can not be prosecuted through the new directive. Ipred 2 has been harshly criticized from day 1 by people saying it in turn infringes on people freedom of speech and even been considered a lobby directive from the media industry.
