It's like San Francisco - with greyer weather
Is Liverpool really the centre of the creative universe?
When the US beat poet and counter-cultural icon Allen Ginsberg arrived in Liverpool in May 1965, he declared the city to be "at the present moment, the centre of consciousness of the human universe". Perhaps his pronouncement shouldn't be taken too seriously: he made similar claims for Milwaukee and Baltimore. As Liverpool poet Brian Patten, whose floor Ginsberg slept on, says: "I think Allen believed the centre of human consciousness to be wherever he was at the time."

Agreement on Burial of James Brown
The six adult children of singer James Brown have agreed with his partner, Tomi Rae Hynie, on where the entertainer will be buried, an attorney for the woman said Tuesday.
Hynie's attorney, Robert Rosen, said the resting place is being kept confidential at the request of Brown's children. Rosen said the burial may take place in the "next few days." An attorney for Brown's children would not discuss specifics of any burial plans, but he said an agreement was being worked out.
Brown died Christmas Day at age 73. His body is being kept in a confidential location, said Charles Reid, manager of the C.A. Reid Funeral Home in Augusta, Ga., which handled Brown's funeral.
He said he checked on Brown on Tuesday, opening the gold casket to view the body.

Maybe We Deserve to Be Ripped Off By Bush’s Billionaires
Not only does it make many of Bush’s tax cuts permanent, but it envisions a complete repeal of the Estate Tax, which mainly affects only those who are in the top two-tenths of the top one percent of the richest people in this country. The proposed savings from the cuts over the next decade are about $442 billion, or just slightly less than the amount of the annual defense budget (minus Iraq war expenses). But what’s interesting about these cuts are how Bush plans to pay for them.

CNN Runs Story on Marijuana Legalization
Brilliant... MORE coverage is needed for this. If we compare the problems with alolchol & marijuana, alolchol is much worse. We would be far better if everyone went out on a friday night and got stoned...

Female Pakistani minister shot dead for 'breaking Islamic dress code'
A Pakistani minister and woman’s activist has been shot dead by an Islamic extremist for refusing to wear the veil.
Zilla Huma Usman, the minister for social welfare in Punjab province and an ally of President Pervez Musharraf, was killed as she was about to deliver a speech to dozens of party activists, by a “fanatic”, who believed that she was dressed inappropriately and that women should not be involved in politics, officials said.
