Piracy case collapses in Russia
A Russian court has thrown out a criminal case against a rural headteacher accused of using pirated Microsoft software in his school.
The court in Perm, some 1000km (620 miles) east of Moscow, dismissed the case of Alexander Ponosov as "trivial".

Terry Gilliam's Tideland
The newest Terry Gilliam movie is best described as nightmarish. With no particular point, the end of the film evokes relief and embarrassment, as if you have just finished witnessing Gilliam pass an enormous gallstone kidney stone. One feels the urge to let go his clammy hand, pat him gently and ask him if he feels better.

Scientists find lakes under Antarctica
Beneath the snow, ice and bitter cold of Antarctica, scientists have discovered a network of lakes that fill and empty with rapidly flowing water.
It's a finding that may improve understanding of the interaction between global warming and the melting of Antarctic ice, which could contribute to a worldwide rise in ocean level.

Human brain can make new cells: study
New evidence shows that the human brain can manufacture fresh brain cells, researchers say in a study that may lead to better ways to treat brain damage and disease.
Scientists had known that other animals, such as rats and mice, make new brain cells throughout their lives and there had been indirect evidence that humans beings can, too.
