DAVID is a freeware software for laser range scanning. All you need is a PC, a camera (e.g. a webcam), a background corner, and a laser that projects a line onto the object you want to scan. So everyone can use it to scan objects without high costs; this is the big advantage over commercial solutions which are rather expensive.

Brötzmann Rarities (MP3)

My first encounter with free jazz giant Peter Brötzmann happened more than 20 years ago, at the 1985 Total Music Meeting in Berlin. At the time I was a rather naive teenager visiting (West) Berlin, and I saw that Wolfgang Dauner was playing at the Quartier Latin. I didn't know what to make of the name "Total Music Meeting" and had never heard of any of the other musicians who were playing that night, but I really liked Dauner, so I decided to go and let myself be surprised. And surprised I was. I had never really listened to free jazz before, so it was quite an experience to see Phil Minton, Peter Brötzmann, and Hugh Davies going berserk on stage, with lots of energy and no discernible rules or structure. At least that was the impression it made on me at the time.

The Wonder of Soap Bubbles

Adults too are pulled into the wonder.

As a bubble artist it's my job to use science, research and my imagination to explore how bubbles work and what we can do with them.

Then I create performances filled with enthusiasm and bubbles like none you've ever dreamed possible...

Phylogenetic Tree Visualisation - Tree of life - Picture

This picture is a visualisation of the entire tree of life. The tree of life (cellular organisms) has three main branches:
* The bacteria (unicellular prokaryotic microorganisms) which are in focus in this picture and represented by orange nodes.
* The archaea which are probably more closely related to the eukaryotes than they are to the bacteria even though they lack a cell nucleus and represent some of the most extreme forms of life on earth. They are represented by red nodes and near the top and in the background of the picutre
* The eukarya (all cellular organisms with a cell nucleus) represented by yellow nodes and are located on the left hand side and in the background of the picture.
