New York plans official city condom
Available soon from City Hall: an official New York condom in a jazzy wrapper, perhaps one printed with a colourful subway map or some other city theme.
New York City hands out 1.5 million free condoms a month in ordinary wrappers, and health officials figure people would be more likely to actually use them if the packaging were more distinctive.

Cat and mouse in real life 'Tom and Jerry' drama
Police were drafted in after a cat tried to fish a mouse out of a jam jar and got its head stuck.
A motorist went to a police station for help after finding the tabby wandering beside a road in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, with the jar on its head and the mouse millimetres from its nose.
A receptionist and three officers pulled and twisted but were unable to release the cat, police said.

New Zealand declares Feb 15 National Lamb Day to honour 60 million sheep

2,500-year-old mirror dropped on TV
A 2,500-year-old mirror worth £500,000 was dropped and smashed on a Chinese TV show.
A model was showing the ancient mirror to the audience when it slipped from her hands and fell to the floor. It shattered into pieces, shocking the audience - especially owner Chen Fengjiu who was sitting in the front row.

Cool The Globe
I'm what you might call a born again greenie.
And even then, it depends on your definition of greenie. I'm not an activist - well, not in the traditional sense. I'm certainly not radical. You'd have problems spotting me in a crowd. I'm the one who blurs into the background.
So what am I doing running this website?
As time goes on, we've been forced to accept the environment is a mainstream issue. Global warming is fact. We're seeing the consequences everyday.

Microwave experiments cause sponge disasters
Reports about a study that found microwave ovens can be used to sterilize kitchen sponges sent people hurrying to test the idea this week -- with sometimes disastrous results.
A team at the University of Florida found that two minutes in the microwave at full power could kill a range of bacteria, viruses and parasites on kitchen sponges.

Hobbit cave digs set to restart
Archaeologists who found the remains of human "Hobbits" have permission to restart excavations at the cave where the specimens were found.
Indonesian officials have blocked access to the cave since 2005, following a dispute over the bones.
