Google Security Hole Allows Account Hijacking

It’s your worst nightmare – someone reads parts of your Google emails, views your docs, modifies your spreadsheets, checks out your reading habits on the Google personalized homepage or Google Reader, and goes through your search history. Yet, by making use of a new Google security hole, Tony Ruscoe was able to do all that with my Google account.

Yahoo Using Dirty Tactics to Switch Google & Firefox Users?

The power struggle between Yahoo and Google for your desktop just took an evil turn, with evidence that suggests Yahoo is covertly trying to switch Google search users without their explicit permission.

Over email, Jarrod Hunt of Text Link Brokers explained how a recent upgrade to Yahoo Messenger includes an innocuous “auto-update” option. When the user gives Yahoo permission to “update” – what they think is just Yahoo Messenger – the updater downloads IE 7 (which we already know to be buggy) and then proceeds to hijack many browser preferences – including search engine settings.

Inside The Venice Project, Built On Mozilla

The Venice Project is not just another online video start-up. The Luxembourg-based company is the latest co-production of the two-person hit factory of Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis. The founders of Kazaa and Skype are hoping that The Venice Project will upend the television experience just as their earlier efforts turned the music and phone businesses on their respective heads.

Cisco lost rights to iPhone trademark last year, experts say

An investigation into the ongoing trademark dispute between Cisco and Apple over the name "iPhone" appears to show that Cisco does not own the mark as claimed in their recent lawsuit. This is based on publicly available information from the US Patent and Trademark office, as well as public reviews of Cisco products over the past year. The trademark was apparently abandoned in late 2005/early 2006 because Cisco was not using it.

The Worst Band Names of '06: The Final List

Regular blog readers may remember my mid-year tally of the worst band names we’d encountered, a glimpse of the year-end’s definitive list of bad puns, clumsy imagery, and misappropriation of the word “funk.” There are so many bands out there, and so many of them have bad names—and not just run-of-the-mill mediocrity like Real Lunch. I mean truly awful, what-were-they-thinking kinda names. Poofinger, anyone?

From iPhone to iGroan

A new mobile phone has been launched amid much fanfare and hype. But, as a survey reveals half of adults feel overwhelmed by technology, not everyone's jumping up and down.

Prancing around the stage at this year's Macworld conference, Apple boss Steve Jobs described his latest gizmo as "magical", history in the making and a "revolution". Some of those in the audience he was addressing had queued all night to witness the object of his superlatives. And it was... a phone.

Thirty-six years of suffering a guilty conscience finally has proven too much for a German who shoplifted from a small store while on vacation in Norway in 1970.
