UK pioneers digital film network


The world's first digital cinema network will be established in the UK over the next 18 months.

The UK Film Council has awarded a contract worth £11.5m to Arts Alliance Digital Cinema (AADC), who will set up the network of up to 250 screens.

The software giant has admitted specifically excluding users of the popular Windows compatibility toolkit with its update tool

Bank of America loses customer data


Bank of America Corp. has lost computer data tapes containing personal information on up to 1.2 million federal employees, including some members of the U.S. Senate. The lost data includes Social Security numbers and account information that could make customers of a federal government charge card program vulnerable to identity theft.

Intelligent MIDI Sequencing with Hamster Control


After much consideration of different technical design aspects and contemplating various musical ideas, I was able to arrive at a project that would fulfill all of my musical and engineering goals.An intelligent MIDI sequencer was designed with hamster control. The MIDI sequencer intelligently produced melodies by manipulating the musical elements of rhythm and note-choice. Guided by inputs based on hamster movements, Markov chains were used to perform such beat and note computations.

Founder of Amnesty International Dies


Peter Benenson, who founded Amnesty International more than four decades ago, has died. He was 83.

Benenson, who was educated in some of Britain's top schools, began his own human rights campaigns as a boy in support of Spanish civil war orphans and Jews fleeing Hitler's Germany.
